What is an iPhone guru?

Some of it has to do with the fact that the perception of the iPhone users versus the Mac users is not so great. A changing of the guard occurred, the numbers prove it. Obviously the more senior members are Mac users, but there are some people that post a lot, almost exclusively in the iPhone forum, one aggie comes to mind...

Hmmmm......not really sure why you're mentioning me in this thread. :)

Anyway. OP, are you making a comment or do you have a question? If you're commenting that questions don't get answered on here; well I don't see how you could say that. Sure, some members are rude, but that's because they see the same questions over and over and some members just refuse to search. Also, some misinformation goes on, but that's because this is a forum.

I'm not sure the label 'guru' would apply, but I am very knowledgeable about the iPhone. Problem is, most of the questions that get asked around here fall into two categories:

1) Only Apple can fix it
2) The question has already been asked hundreds of times and the poster is completely inept at searching or else chose not to resulting in a useless thread that is more of an attack on the OP than anything useful.

When good questions come up they are answered here.

3) Only AT&T (or your carrier) would know. ;)

If you're talking about hackers, hackint0sh.org is what you need.
I don't think the OP was even asking anything close to that. But thanks for playing. ;)

OP, if you're asking where you can find knowledgeable people to help you with issues relating to your iPhone, this site has the largest, if not nearly the largest user base. You will find more knowledgeable people around here than any other place I believe, short of the Apple discussion boards (which are heavily moderated to a point where nothing bad can really be said towards Apple). For every 5 twunts you see, you'll find 1 person who can help you. I don't know if that ratio is correct but it's a good starting point.

In other words, if you have a question best to answer a site that is active, like this one. iPhone gurus, I don't think there is such thing. If there is a person with a huge ego who wishes to call themselves a guru then sure, that's where you'll find one. Usually their arrogance gets in the way of helping.

Well, looking at the OP's previous posts, they seem to be all about JB-ing, circumventing the data plan, getting the iPhone he f*cked up with his third-party apps and such replaced at the genius bar, etc.

I've never had a question go unanswered here. I also visit www.theiphoneblog.com as well, but they don't have the traffic that this site has. I post almost exclusively in the iPhone forum, despite the fact that I had a Mac computer well before the phone. This section is just more exciting I guess. The computers are pretty awesome, and there's a lot less news/rumors around them until just before a product refresh. It never stops with the iPhone, which is why I visit here all the time.

Perhaps you should define what you mean by "guru" and what kind of content are you looking for?

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that gurus aren't going to keep answering questions that have been asked and answered before but not searched for. FWIW you're being insulting to the knowledgeable people who frequent these forums.

i get my questions answered and have learned a LOT from this forum! (i do agree that there are some obnoxious and rude posters.... but i guess you have to take the good with the bad!)

so what forum do the iphone gurus post on
cause it seems like they're avoiding this place like the plague

I think what the poster was trying to do was use some sarcasm and basically making fun of all the posters here. Basically saying no one here knows what the hell they are talking about... Which is not all that inaccurate either

except our mods who I love and forever in their debt..... after getting banned for a week... <---- that is sarcasm

All questions and concerns will be met with sarcsasm if you didnt search.
If you searched and have an issue, we will always help to the best of our abilities.
