We all know TF2 and Half Life 2 don't run very well at all. What games do?

TF2 runs Great for me....don't forget if you connect to a server with latency your gonna lag.....alot....and that might make you think the game is not running well.....when Im in a server with 60 latency or so the game has been flying....

I'm playing offline and it hiccups frequently and it's froze completely twice now.

Has anyone tried Portal? I've got a 2006 Macbook so a bit hesitant to buy it tbh.

All of the Steam games play fine for me, and I'm on a 2 year old iMac. When there's maybe 6+ people on screen, then I get a slight shuffle of frames on TF2, but that's about it. I suspect that a good amount of the people putting forth complaints are on laptops, so that may be where the issue rests. But then again, as consumers they should have been aware of the limitations of their machines from the get-go...

There's a big difference between "not running as well as it does on Windows" and "not running well"..

TF2, Portal and HL2 work well in osX on a lot of people's Macs. Killing Floor runs great. All the simpler 2D things run perfectly.

Well my limitations should be pretty low. You can see my specs in my sig.

Do the same issues arise with both of your machines, under similar conditions (i.e., plugged in to a power source, not running other applications, relatively few background processes, comparable graphics cards)?

On my 2 year old 24' iMac Torchlight looks and runs great and Portal performs well - especially after the updates (initially it had poor framerate and the 'black portal' issue, but now runs smoothly).

Half-Life 2 has been pretty smooth and enjoyable for me on a early 2009 white MacBook (2GB Ram, 9400m, 2.0ghz Core2Duo).

Having said that I'm running at 1024x640 and medium settings... I had expected to run things a little bit higher for a game that came out in 2004.

I would encourage anyone with similar settings, who hasn't played Half-Life 2, to purchase it. At $9.99 it's a lot of fun.

I have the MBP i5 2.4 AG HR. HL2, Portal, TF2 all run great. I use Native Res on my AG HR screen and I average 60fps in each game. :D I adjusted the setting so that they are not all on high. Most are on medium. :D

I know this is a case of user error and not a Steam issue.

I tried TF2 today and it ran great, much better than I expected, and pretty much on par with it on Boot Camp. Portal was the same, no problems. And all the Pop Cap games run perfectly.

I also have the early 2009 white macbook and it plays TF2 perfectly for me. I'm at work atm and I don't know what TF2 specs I'm running, but it's along the lines of native res, medium settings with AA, water reflection, and some other settings turned off.

It's really subjective to say what runs "well" because we all have our different perceptions as to what "well" means. Like I said, TF2 runs, what to me is "perfect," but over the weekend, I had a friend scoff at how it looked and told me it wasn't playable.

We all know ???

Thank you but I'm able to speak for myself.

If you are saying that the mac games on steam run worse (fps) then pc games on steam, then you are correct.

If you are saying that the mac steam games will not run well on my mac with max graphics (but v sync off) and good fps, then you are wrong.

The Mac games on steam currently require faster hardware then the pc games require on steam due to drivers (Apple) and optimization of game code. You should either run steam under windows or upgrade your hardware.

Does Starcraft 2 work just as well in OSX as it does in Windows? Has anyone tried on the same machine?

Very curious to know.

Killing Floor runs great and I've also been enjoying Hearts of Iron III. Europa Universalis I already had for Mac which runs well as does Civ 4.

Basically Valve ports seem to need some performance tweaks but 3rd party ports run significantly better atm. Not least because I can actually run non-Valve games with my 7600 ;)

Actually hl2 runs well even on my radeon 2400 except when there are a lot of effects going on, especially fire, and the loading times are faster than windows. Make sure you turn off vsync, color correction, motion blur, and anti-aliasing. Also go to hl2 properties in steam and type -snd_openal in launch options if you have sound glitches. BTW this improves all the source games released so far.
