any guesses as to the top end cpu?

Best is relatively to workload. If "best" is a euphemism for most expensive then either E5 2695 v2 or 2697 v2 Depends upon just how high Apple wants the max BTO price to go. If the '97 is super crazy priced Apple may stop at the '95.

For standard configs probably a E5 1660 v2 ( 6 cores 3.6GHz base 4.0GHz max ).

do we know that the cpu will be weld/soldered or will I be able to buy a low end model and add a hi end model. like my 2010 quad to hex thread. I

have been waiting a few years to do it and make a diy post. I also have two render farms wondering if I can do this for them.

doubtful it will be soldered. Socket 2011 isn't a solder format. I don't think they are going to make it easy. I suspect that unless very precise in making the changes it won't "hook into" the centralized cooling system right.

It makes little sense to solder there, even if the socket permitted it. That would make for very expensive repairs if a logic board goes bad.

Yeah that is what I am hoping for. The 2010 thread I did was nice for many mac pro owners hoping for same with this.

maybe the base is a e5 1660 and i can boost it to an e5 2690

I will look to do this and post a how to thread this fall.
