Any guesses on what new features the previous gen ATV2 will get when the ATV3 comes out?

App store? Safari Web Browser? More channels? Hulu? Airplay mirroring support for iPhone 4, not just 4S?

Would like to hear what you guys think.

If the ATV3 is 1080p, and lets face it, that's pretty much the clincher in the deal, then the ATV2 will probably just be supported with updates, but not receive many new features.

I'm waiting to see, but if the newbie is 1080, that would be my reason to upgrade.

Unfortunately, new hardware has a good chance of leading to abandonment of updates for the aTV2. Hopefully we'll get one last update before Apple switches it's attention fully to aTV3, but there's a good chance we have everything we'll ever have on the aTV2.

I hope I'm wrong and the two are similar enough to be covered by the same software updates.

A price drop.

I think the aTV3 will have enough new features that it will have to be bigger but the aTV2 is such a fantastic product design and feature-set that it would make sense to allow it to be a "basic" tier with the Apple TV 3 being the more expensive high end product.

I don't know why you think the form factor will change? If Apple can pack circuitry for 1080P in the small amount of iPad that is not a) a screen, or b) a battery, they can easily do it in the ATV2's mass.

What he said :) Depending on what they add, should just be a processor change to get it to push 1080. Applications have already been hacked onto it as a proof of concept.
