I just assumed that Apple would change the domain for their e-mail service to @iCloud.com or something similar. But keeping it as @me.com also makes sense in a way.

I'm just curious, though, where does @me.com fit in with the rest of iCloud and this new service? Apple is wanting to distant themselves from MobileMe and move into iCloud, right? Is this something you see being changed in the future?

Not that it makes a difference to me, I was just curious how Apple sees @me.com fitting into their overall plan.

I think Apple intends to continue using the @me.com domain. I agree it seems a little out of place now and that @iCloud.com would make more sense. However, @me.com is a great sounding and very simple email suffix.

Totally agree. @me.com is just so short and sweet. Also, because Apple took the trouble of keeping MobileMe subscribers' current @me.com email addresses working with iCloud (just like they did with @mac.com back in 2008), it just made sense to keep this domain for everybody.

In case they use iCloud.com for email too I hope they make it as alias so I can use joe @ me.com sametime as joe @ icloud.com. would not like to have someone else get my name in iCloud instead. I know, very egoistic ... Vote me down

I don't think Apple wants more bitchy customers ranting about how they went thru @mac change to @me now @iCloud! That's would be a very big mess for someone like me to give/change all my ppl to email me to @icloud instead of @me!

I can't comment on other members but I can say that I'm still on @mac and I have no plans of moving to @me. I would be a little more open to migrating to @iCloud but I still like my @mac email address. :)

I personally love my @mac.com address. Whenever I use it in an Apple store I have heard on multiple occasions from an employee when I give my address, "Oh wow, old school" or "Wow, your a loyalist!".

Semi-related... I read that you can't merge AppleID's and existing MobileMe accounts. I'm cool with that, I never used the old me.com email anwyay. But on the new system I plan on using the @me.com for my personal email.

How does that work with one's iTunes account? Do you still login with myregularitunes@email.com and just use mynewemail@me.com for the email? Can you then sign into your iTunes account WITH your @me.com email? Seems like a bit of a chicken and the egg...

LOL, same here. I'm so used to the @mac.com address, I just can't use anything else! :D I do admit though, @icloud.com is kinda cool too.

I believe when iCloud was made available to developers that this was the case; you couldn't transition a .mac/.me mail account to the cloud. I can tell you that as of the last round of betas...iOS and 10.7.2...after installing them, I was actually presented with a prompt screen suggesting that I transition me MobileMe account to iCloud. Knowing it didn't work before, I was skeptical. But after logging in and answering a few question prompts, it took. My MobileMe account, including my .mac email address, works flawlessly in iCloud.

There are no plans to have name@icloud.com offered.
