Sorry for core duo guys, I don't remember what specs it where back in the days so :(


I do this to see how many thought the 2.2GHz where enough or not.
I know it's a better value but I still want 256MB vram, I think I should have ordered it and just lost the cash because now I have to regret my purchase for the whole time. The plan are already to sell it and get a new base one once they get 256MB in all modells but that may cost me even more :(
I don't know what I should have done.

But if I would have switched from 2.2 to 2.4 GHz I would have had to wait for another 10 days or so, and feeled like I've spent/wasted a lot of cash for something worth more or less nothing (in hardware, more in peace of mind and to me.) and now it's already shipped, I guess one aren't allowed to make changes then? ;D
(I think like this because I don't have that much money and I more or less spend all of them, and to my "family" it probably looks weird to buy so expensive toys when I don't really need them anyway, but I've wanted one so long. But I'd so much rather be happy with my purchase, but Apple choose not to let me :(. But in my mind I know 128MB with that GPU is stupid because it will lack in some situations, damn even 1600x1200 Warcraft 3 with everything on max uses 103MB vram, what will any newer game do then? Also I'm affraid it might lack in apps. I don't give a **** about CPU speed, so if I had the 256MB modell I could probably have survivived much longer with it (for as long as it stayed with me probably, and just get a desktop machine for games once it wasn't sufficient.))
Stupid Apple, I hate you for releasing inferior computers with retarded specs, why not make good ones instead of trying to fool people into overspend as much as possible? Wouldn't have been possible without your ugly vendorlockin anyway :(


I took 2.16 to 2.33 GHz MBPs here aswell because in that regard I actually think the 2.33 might have been a better choice than it is now, because then atleast you got more ram and I consider ram worth more than HDD space.

If I wouldn't have had the ADC membership running out soon on me I wouldn't have got a MBP at all since the specs where retarded and just have waited for something better to turn up.

You switched when you shipped it back or why the 2.4? It sucks to get the 2.4 now since it's so far from the latest update, I wanted to order the same day they where updated but this vram issue have made me think about it way to long :(.

At the iMacs the step from 2.0 to 2.4 GHz aren't that big in money but they use the same CPU types so I guess the 2.4GHz price have fallen considerably during that short amount of time. If only Apple stayed of (or let people choose) from the latest and greatest in CPUs for us who don't care.

I for sure will, I won't pay the same price to upgrade from 120 to 160GB as a 160GB drive cost new. I will give the 120GB to my sister or something instead, she only got 30GB.

And people says it's not voided if one doesn't kill it. Also since you break no warranty seals and whatever flaw which isn't crashed HDD occour I don't see what they have to do with eachother.

I leave for college in a few days, and had no choice but to ship the yellow MBP back and go to a Retail Store and pay out of pocket for another MBP, which they only had the 2.4 in stock so I had to get it. I'm praying they credit me for the MBP before my CC bill comes in.

I see, I guess it's nice they are popular and sell well atleast =P

Not everyone can hate their configs then1 ;D, maybe I'm all alone ;D

(No I don't "hate" it, I just think it's unnecessary stupid because noone in the world except Apple would come up with the redicilous idea to save a few bucks on 128MB less vram.)

I get what you're saying. When I ordered my 2.2 I worried whether the 128MB VRAM would be enough for the next few years. Now that I have the 256MB I don't have to worry, and there is definitely no performance increase in the tasks I do compared to the 2.2. For future games and the CG work I do, however, I'm 100% sure it can only help.

I guess the differences are similair for each version anyway. The base modell if it came from apple or dell or whatever are always best bang for your bucks and they try to make more money on the options.

Of course you notice no other difference because the step from 2.2 to 2.4 ghz are so small, just retarded of :apple:
They should just have the lowend modell with 256MB vram and let everything else be options. Stupid apple.

I don't think it voids the entire warranty if you swap HDD's. They just won't cover any problems as a result of doing that or the HDD itself. That's why they put tape on vital parts.

Try it out first for a week or two to get used to the computer. Use apps like PS, FCP (if you have it) or games. When you slap on the 4Gigs, you will have a better appreciation for the difference in performance and you won't experience buyer's remorse.

To aliquis - I do understand where you are coming from and I agree that Apple's list of upgrades is sparse and nonsensical, at times, but if you have to play with what you got, I think the 2.2 is the better deal. An upgrade in RAM and a bigger HDD is all it needs to remain competitive. The VRAM does not really affect performance in the normal scheme of things. And since Apples aren't such great video game machines, the extra 128MB doesn't really matter. Likewise, if you aren't really going to be using 3D intensive apps.

Would have I been happy if they offered a 2.2 256MB MBP? Sure, more is always good, but as it stands, the 2.2 will serve its purpose well for the next 3-4 years. IMO, it's more than capable.
