Which companies? Hopefully someone like AOL got a copy so we can finally get a damn chat program... Ideally adium!!

First of all, it hasn't been launched yet, so I doubt companies have it already.

Second...do you really want a company like AOL, with it's festering turd of a desktop chat client, creating software for your iPhone? I certainly don't...but I do hope the Adium developers create a version, that would indeed be great.

Some companies already got a copy of it. And true, AOL sucks haha.. adium would be perfect.

adium isn't made by AOL. its an opensource project.

and i doubt many, if any, devs have the SKD yet. only some big names perhaps, but few and far between.

people are saying that sling media already has it...

But if I had to guess I would say: google, Avon, and j-crew ;)

The first official chat program will be iChat, which is going to suck until we get Adium or another that supports multiple protocols like MSN and Yahoo.

^^

Based on what? You really think Apple would wait this long to put iChat out?

It's been said a million times...iChat would eat into SMS profits for AT&T, which in turn would eat away at Apple's share of said profits. Don't hold your breath for iChat.

And that's been answered a million times with the majority of the phones on the market having the ability to connect to AIM already.

Ha ha, 'festering turd', that's funny. It's true too... Does anyone even use AOL anymore? (I'm not talking about AIM, but their software for getting onto the internet)

They do unfortunately, there was a thread not too long ago of someone trying to get it working on their mac. *shudder*

I still think SMS and chat both have the strong points. I like the easy and speed of just typing in a number / selecting a contact and sending a quick sms. What I really would want chat for would be the cases that sms does not cover. My son comes home from school at plays on the Mac Mini, I can then IM / chat with him from my phone. There have been plenty of times that I wanted to ask / tell someone something that I know is on their computer, but does not have a cellphone.

Google, Garmin, on2, Adobe, Sling Media. Pure guesses here, but if any tech is shown that's not Apple at the main keynote, i'd bet they have had access to the SDK.
