iOS lets you use iCloud Passwords in Chrome.

Why can't macOS??? What's up with that?? 🤬
There’s a new passwords pane in System Preferences. On iOS Chrome is nothing more than a wrapper around Safari, whereas on macOS it’s own app.

Has this ever been resolved? I too prefer to use Chrome across all of my devices (windows, Mac, iPhone, iPad). But Chrome on a Mac is the ONLY combo that does not work with the Apple iCloud Passowords still? I don't want to use Safari really on my Mac which seems like the only compromise for me. Thanks.

There is now a Chrome extension from Apple to sync iCloud bookmarks there as well. So you can use Safari on all of you Apple devices, Chrome (or Edge) on Windows, and still sync all of your data.
