On one of my Macs of course
Aloha everyone,

I finally got up the nerve to actually mod my iPhone. I was nervous, as I didn't want to brick it, but it was very easy, as was the restore process. Amyway, you can see my work below. If anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask.

Where did you get those graphics? A link please? VERY GOOD! And as soon as I can get one here in the UK im modding it.

I've put ringtones on mine without issue. If I need to update, I'll restore first to original condition then run the update...

Yeah - where did you get the graphics???

They look great - I love the Ipod and the Phone graphic.

This is probably the best looking job I've seen so far. Most of the ones I've looked at are WAY over the top. They seem to contradict what Apple is all about- simplicity. This one looks great.

I'm waiting for a drag and drop app to come out for OS X that will allow me to edit the files. Anyone know of any progress on that front?

I'm trying to workout the courage to do it too. I think I'm going to wait at least for the 1st update, then decide after that. If they add alot of customizing features then I won't have to worry about modding it. But if they don't I guess I'll take the plunge!!!

looks cool! is there a way to eliminate the icons altogether and just have text as the buttons?

I'm hardly going to tell anyone what they can or cannot do with their iPhone (none of my business if they want to turn it into a christmas tree ornament or use it to spackle walls) but am I the only one is bothered by people modifying the iPhone and hacking it and such?

I know I sort of hate myself for the emotional response, since I usually pride myself on being far more logical about things, but for some reason it does bug me...anyone else or am I just being a nut about a phone.

I agree. I wouldn't do it myself unless there was a sure-fire way that wouldn't void my warranty, but to each his own. If someone wants to change the way the buttons look, more power to them.

How does it void your warranty, are you opening the case and changing the icons from the PHYSICAL outside, NO! you aren't, you are simply exchanging a .png file for another one of your personal preference, and even if it supposedly DOES void your warranty, unless they have a Restore counter much like the "miles driven" gauge in your car, all you have to do is restore it through itunes!!! I hope everyone has fun modding their iphone to be THEIRS !!!!

Different strokes.

I would never risk my phone for cosmetic changes. Now if they had something substantial that might make the phone much more useful for me, I might risk it.

I just don't have a problem with the phone as it is that modding icons and ringtones improve my experience.

Aloha everyone,

I apologize for not answering any sooner, but I was very busy at work, as well as later at home. Besides, I was able to go to the Kahala Apple Store and pick up my Apple Bluetooth headset, so of course I just HAD to play with it hehehe :D

I have a couple of links, but the two best sites are http://modmyiphone.com and http://everythingiphone.com. Everything you need is there. I simply took the blue battery set and modified the hue using Photoshop. I then approached the menubar icons in the same manner and, voila, that she blows.

I just got done modding mine. I first tried on my mac and none of the icons showed up. I then tried on my XP laptop and it all worked fine. I don't have any pictures yet because I will most likely find a better icon set in the morning.
