So why are there two types of 1.8Ghz G5 models...

I see two types of 1.8Ghz single CPU powermac G5's.

One claims to run at 600mhz FSB the other runs at 900mhz.

It seems the older (faster single cpu) one is "M9031LL/A" and the newer (slower) one is "M9555LL/A."

What is the deal and is the older faster one still worth getting, because as far as I can see the older one that isn't in production anymore seems to be the better buy as far as single CPU's go, or is there something I'm missing?

He's talking about the PowerMacs, not the iMacs.

Do you have links to the two machines? They're both no longer available at the store and if things are what you say, its a bit odd.

He is right about the two different models. When they first introduced the G5's, they have a single 1.6, single 1.8, and a dual 2.0. Each FSB running at half the processor speed. A few months later they changed teh 1.8 to a dual 1.8, still with a 900 FSB. As they updated teh G5 line, they later added a crippled single 1.8 with a 600mHz FSB which they just discontinued. I would go with the older one if I had the choice, it might also be cheaper because it is a few years old.

The video card might be a bit different - but I do remember this as being odd. But I think the sad thing is that the original 1.8 G5 is a couple years old.....

Tachikoma - are you going to buy one of these? What are the going prices on the different models?

I have the ability to get one of these older models M9031LL/A with 1.8Ghz @ 900Mhz FSB for $1200. It also comes with the SuperDrive, 512MB DDR400, and a 160GB SATA HD. Those were all stock when the item came out. I think it's a good deal, but I don't know for sure, what does everyone else think?

The middle one is the one I can get. Video is a 5200 Ultra 64MB.
