So with iTunes Match, all DRM iTunes songs are DRM free?

If Apple matches all of your music and converts them to DRM free, for those that still have DRM iTunes music and didn't pay the upgrade charge per song, isn't this a one time $25 upgrade?

Yeah, I'm kinda curious how iTunes Match works myself. If you have a song that you ripped from CD but in the iTunes store and / or a DRM song purchased from iTunes, it don't think it changes the song locally on your computer. But if you download it onto another device from iCloud, you essentially have a different version that what's stored on your computer. So the next time you sync that device, does it OVERWRITE the previous version on your computer? If so, what happens to your metadata (lyrics, cover art)?

Yeah. That's what I'm wondering.

Absolutely, the $25/year is mainly for you to store your non-iTunes recognized songs. I have a bunch of Garth Brooks and Kid Rock music. Both artists don't allow content on iTunes (at least I'm not aware of anyway).

I was wondering about that as well. It sure does sound like once everything is converted you could just cancel it though.

It doesn't imply that it would "replace" the version on your original computer, it just allows you to download the new version on your iOS device, I think. What happens when you then try to sync that device to the original computer is anyone's guess - either one version overwrites the other or nothing happens. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

So does this mean all the songs I downloaded in my napster days would be converted as well? I haven't downloaded music that way in like over 8 years, I already re bought my favorite songs from iTunes, but never deleted those other tracks.
