Social Network Authoring Software for Macintosh...

I live in one of the world's most popular vacation destination cities.

I plan to author a simple site with about 10 "tabs" at the top each offering "tour-guide" information and a few photos.

Naturally, I plan to add Google Ads to see if there's actually any money to be made.

On one of the tabs I'd like to have a very simple social networking site. I'm thinking of Craigslist simple.

Can anyone suggest a Macintosh web software tool to accomplish this?

I recommend a step up and go for forum software.

phpBB - open source, free, well supported, good hacking community (meaning freeware fixes and addons, nothing illegal)

vBulletin - commercial/licensed, open source, excellent plugins, great skins, AJAX features (rich web extensions), can be integrated into most content management systems with ease - VERY powerful

Forums means users register, fill out profiles, and interact with each other. You can integrate add-ons later such as blogs, chat, as well as your static content. Forums allow you to assign moderators (ask your users to help you run your own site, makes them feel important, relieves your workload) and are highly customizable with minimal effort.

I also suggest PHP/MySQL applications since the open source community sounds like something you would appreciate and benefit from using.

Others will chime in with more ideas, I am sure, but my contention is make the forum the MAIN FOCUS of the site - and like on here, users can vote on topics, insert pictures, link to offsite pages, create custom profiles and you can either allow or restrict guests as per your policies.
