Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) announced that EverQuest for the Macintosh is now Free to play.

Accounts can now be made without putting in credit card information and all expansions up to 2002's Planes of Power (PoP) are flagged on new accounts, allowing players to explore the planes of Norrath and advance to level 65.

Enjoy & Happy adventures!!

I never got past level 20 in EQ. Played it when it first opened, then about 5 years later . . . but damn, now I'm tempted to try again. :(

Ahh not another free game on the Mac...must...resist!
Tho I haven't played Everquest before, how big is the total install?

Just slightly over 2GB for the intel client (which downloads from launchpad3 automatically)

If you want to try it but aren't sure if you should, you should =D Nothing to waste but your time xD

Community is also very helpful & friend I hear!

The entire process of setting up is so streamlined that it's 10 fold easier than before. If you are an old school eq player I highly recommend checking it out. It was literally a blast from the past for me. I have dabbled a bit with the live PC version over the years but this is definitely from a simpler time.

I played EQ from launch and played straight until WoW came out in 2004. I'd love to go back, but is there anyone on the server?

Ive heard that EQ mac is completely empty?

EQmac is not completely empty. It has at least 100+ players online at a time and a very helpful community. Now that it's F2P, the numbers have also been rising.
