I managed to break the ring/vibrate switch on my 1st gen iPhone. It's stuck on vibrate, and the physical switch just wiggles loosely. I've searched extensively, and found info about an app that would replace that function, but only in 1.4. Does anybody here know of anything like it for 2.1 yet? Thanks.

This happened to me back on 1.1.4 and I just gave up trying to find a program that will do it.

Mine was stuck on ring though, so all I could do is turn the ring volume all the way down. It would ring really quitey.

I ended up opening my phone and fixing the switch. The plastic part you see actually flips another switch on the inside. You can either remove the switch and use the inside one, or just fix it if none of the plastic is physically broken.

I dropped the phone and my volume down botton and plastic around it is stuck pressed. It randomly lowers the ring/voice volume and doesn't let it go up. It fixes the volume sometimes by switching on and off the vib mode (I can higher the volume) but it happens again and again and I really want to fix this. Any idea?

Thanks, General. I'm a bit too timid to open the case, but I may well try to pry or drill out the plastic part of the switch to reveal the actual electronic switch.

Bear in mind that you'll need to use a pen or a key to switch it. That is ... unless you're a hobbit and have hobbit fingers. :)
