My friend who is a recent mac switcher wants to backup mutiple hard drives with in one stoage drive(the backup).

I've never backed up my own hard-drive so I don't even know which dirrection to point him in.

If you can reccomend a certain software that would be great.

Try Dantz's "Retrospect" I think it is almost a standard in the printing trade. You can back up any or all mounted disk images from the main computer.

i would suggest Carbon Copy Cloner, like Photohead said. I have used it to copy my OS X.3 drive, on to my portable 40G FireWire Drive. This lets me take my HD anywhere; and plug it in and boot from it having all of my stuff with me.

Anyway, the program worked great for me.
Carbon Copy Cloner

Thanks guys.

If Carbon Copy Cloner is the product for him, then I will link him to it...

I really have no way of testing if thats the product for him or not, so I will go on your advice.

New problem...

He didn't mention this large fact...

It has to be Os 9

Yeah he is quite a newbie for not telling me... arg...

So I need a new product... :(

Um...

something a little bit more... easy...

Dragging your disk over to backup is not an option...

So it's a tape backup then? Retrospect is the way to go.

Thanks for not contributing to this discussion. I don't need to.

He has a firewire hard drive...

He has Multiple Macs he needs to backup (he doesn't want to erase one backup with a backup of another drive.

Retrospect the way to go?

I use retrospect at work to back up 3 MACs (OSX & 9.2.2) and 2 PCs (WIN 2K) all from the same HD. as long as file sharing is on the remote drives and I can mount them the the HD I can back-up all them at once. I use a LaCie 2DVD-R CD-R that is a 48x external Firewire machine and can backup about 10gbs of data in less than 2 hrs. (with software compression)
version 5.1 is OSX compatible.
