I am trying to install 15.7.1 on my 6th generation iPad. After trying a handful of times over the last couple of days, I kept getting an error message - Software Update Failed: An error occurred downloading iPadOS 15.7.1.

I restarted the iPad but that didn't work.

The iPad has enough space. It has over 5gb available. That should be more than needed for this update.

Checked to see if the file was already on the iPad.

When I tried to use iTunes, it only gave me the option to download and install iOS 16. I don't know if there is a way to get around this.

Put it in airplane mode for about a minute. I saw this as a possible solution when I was researching.

I am not sure what else I can try to get this installed. Anything that else I can do?

Same thing on iPad 5th gen. Shut down completely and restarted. That worked . Now have 15.7.1 installed

Unfortunately that didn't work for me. After reading your post it came to me to do a hard reset and that did the trick.

I had same problem, tried shutdown-restart, hard reset, restart wifi router, nothing worked. I had about 4-5 gb free for the update and it stroke me that that could be the problem, that the update needed more space than 603 mb, I deleted some apps and had app. 7-8 gb free - and that did the trick. No problem downloadning and install - it worked for me. Maybe there is a glitch of the space needed in the software update.

I deleted some things as well but it wasn't until the hard reset that it worked.

We got it installed and that is what matters.

I am not ready to go to iOS 16 yet.
