My phone updated last night to iOS 13.4. When I tried to sync it this morning, I got this pop-up Software update is required to connect to your iOS device. Is it asking me update to Catalina or is it just a patch for iTunes on Mojave 12.9.5.5. There's no clear answer online. In the past, it has just been a patch to the current version of iTunes. I can't upgrade to Catalina because of work software compatibility. HELP!

I think it suggests upgrading your Mac to catalina. I have the same issue here, and since I refuse to upgrade from Mojave, I have stopped syncing/backing up to my Mac.

Chrfr: there is no option to install any patch, it just refers me to a panel to upgrade to Catalina.

why would you not want to upgrade to Catalina. Your not keeping your Mac up to date with the latest fixes and security updates and the more newer phones you get may need Catalina in order to work with out issues

Relax, it just wants you to update iTunes. Won’t force you to upgrade to Catalina.

no 32 bit support (Excel 2019 still has that bug where the cells misclick). The OS is buggy in general too. (Had to downgrade a bunch of friends' systems back to mojave)
Apple supports security all the way back to high sierra so there's zero reasons for me to downgrade to catalina.

Why mess around with catalina when mojave does everything i need it to do.

-ya; i can feel for every one of those security updates. Catalina technology some what incremental tho.
-i did a scan for 32 bit apps on my two mac's on my home network. One mac list was expected, the other was blank. Just dont have the time to baby sit this. I need both computers working. Catalina will not make me any money so skip it.
-mac rumors is what it is but have not seen big booming support for the Catalina

This is a transitional time 4me; Apple's high pricing and medium product quality has put off my interest so what was this Catalina thingy??

It seems Apple is off on a tangent i never planned on going. A way back life habit i need to tank and get sober.
