Hello. So, I wasn’t confused and now iam lol. For a while not when I plugged my iPhone 6s into my Mac mini with iOS Sierra I’ve been getting this update required pop up (see below) I figured it was because I hadn’t updated beyond Sierra on my 2010 Mac mini. Well, I just got a 2020 iMac 27” and I tried to plug my iPhone 6s into it for the first time, just now, and I got this same exact pop up which surprised me because I always thought the issue was my old 2010 Mac mini not being updated. When this happened just now on the new iMac, I hit “install” thinking it must have something to do with my iPhone 6s, since I was now on a fully new iMac. The install was running and the time was counting down and then the window disappeared with like 1:30 left to go and nothing happened. Any ideas what I could be dealing with here? I’ve always wondered why all of a sudden my phone having the issue on the 2010 Mac mini but figured it was the lack of updates, but the 2020 iMac? Now I’m really confused. Although I’m always confused lol. Any help would be awesome. Thanks.

In short -- it means that macOS needs additional drivers update to communicate with your iOS version. Nothing harmful or risky. Can happen with any macOS version if iOS drivers were not included in last update.
