So I loved my MacBook but decided to sell it because it lagged on some apps I used. After I sold it I found what I think is a good deal for $450 I bought an iPad Pro, case, apple keyboard, and Apple Pencil. Do you guys think this was a good deal? Using the iPad Pro has been awesome and does more than what my MacBook could do. Btw I sold the MacBook for $650.

As long as you are happy as my new thread posted today reads the 9.7" Pro can do much More than any Laptop can. And it is comfortable to use.

I think the deal you got on the iPad is great, but the price you sold the MacBook for seems low to me.

You can't really make that judgment as the OP,didn't provide any specifics on the model or the condition of his/her MB.

Same as I can't say whether or not the OP got a good deal on the iPad since the storage of the model wasn't specified, or if it was a new/used/refurb model.

What I CAN deduce is that now you have an extra $200 to spend on more toys! That's always a good thing. :)

I sold my 2016 MacBook Pro recently in favour of the iPad Pro and I don't regret it at all so far. The iPad Pro is great because it can basically function as a laptop with the keyboard, and when you aren't using the keyboard it's an amazing in-hand device. Plus, my MacBook Pro couldn't use the pencil and that thing is amazing (if a little expensive).

Sure you don't get desktop level apps/programs but for me and the stuff I do that's totally fine.

No I have no problem with the decision to sell one for the other. I just think it's a bs situation.

Your comment is BS. Plenty of folks have switched and found good deals in doing so. Don't dismiss the OP when you can't see such a situation happen for yourself.

I suppose but I'd still prefer to have a nice MacBook Pro and iPad Pro. The iPad is essentially a laptop were as MacBook is a desktop replacement for me. Both being portable in any event regardless :)

And this from the person who told everyone it would not have the headphone jack. Hilarious.

1) There is no Xcode for iPad. Can't develop Apps for iOS and put it in the App Store. Apps are required, even for an iPad.
2) Last time I do a mistake and my Action Cam recorded my videos 180° rotated. Can't rotate it on an iPad lossless, only with re-encoding and loosing quality. FFMPEG do it on macOS without problems...
3) Millions more examples like 2)

With an iPad (or better: iOS) you can do A, B and C nicely, maybe you can even interact with B and C. But if you need to solve mistakes (like example 2), any Desktop Computer is lightyears better suited than any iOS device (for now).

Yes. Every day. And I know that as awesome as the iPad is, it cannot do much more than any laptop. That's absurd.
Just poking a bit, but does your laptop have touch? And a pencil? 4G/LTE then?
A4 sized portrait mode for reading multi colum old documents? Smart connector? Lightning port that charges/syncs and that turns into USB, card reader or Ethernet port?
Is your 13" laptop 700gr then? And still lasting 10h of video playback?! All day work sessions?

We all know what laptops are capable of, but what if pdfs, websites, word, excel, mail and Dropbox is all you need? Then a MacBook Pro is a hell of a lot of money for things I don't need and lacking features I wouldn't want to work without!!!

Nope, I have a MBPro. It does some of that but not all.

And I get your point, and agree, but the statement was that the iPad can do more than 'any' laptop. So the best most powerful laptop that you might use for heavy coding. iPad is better. The best laptop for playing old video formats or re-encoding them. iPad is better. You need a tough hardened physically tough laptop that will survive an expedition to Antarctica. Don't get a laptop, none can do it better than the iPad. You need to do professional multitrack recording for your band's new CD. Use an iPad. You need to present your architectural drawings to your customer and do on the fly notes and tweaks. Use an iPad. You need to do some heavy batch RAW photo processing. Use your iPad, it's better. Got a great idea for a new Linux application? You can program that on your iPad, it's the best device for that. You need to remotely administer your company network? iPad for sure.

I use my iPad every day, and I had my iPad3 for YEARS and used it every day. Also awesome.

But even something a simple as updating a spreadsheet in cloud storage is far quicker and easier on the laptop. Sure I can do it on the iPad too, but it's just not as quick and efficient, and to think that an iPad is better than every laptop in every situation is just asinine, and only a conclusion that can reasonably be help by someone with barely any understanding of either iPads or laptops.

Nail, head, hit, spot on. Some saying with those words :)

Excel is one of two problems I still have.
Huge excel's will never be comfortable on a 13", I guess, sometimes even my 27" seems too small. But MS Excel for iPad (12.9) could be so much more. Two weeks ago I was looking to change the borders on some cells and make a big underline in a simple balance sheet. Nope. But, I have to admit to my surprise, last week MS updated word and excel and several new features where available! With lining borders and several other useful features.
So it might get better in the near future. I also hope iOS 11 will bring some good solid feature updates for iPad (Pro's). But I'm not holding my breath.

Other problem is running a good OCR like Adobe's clearscan on PDF documents. Especially large reports with 500+ pages, many tables and pictures and huge amounts of texts. I haven't found a good one yet.

OP you got a solid deal on the ipp and depending on the condition of your MB, the sale price was decent. For most people, the MacBook is a much better all around device. That being said, some can do everything on an iPad. If that is you, then you made the right decision for your workflow.

I agree - I had both an iPad Pro 9.7 and a 12" MacBook, ended up selling the iPad Pro. For most use cases, I prefer to carry the MacBook around with me, and it's great that the battery life is pretty similar to the iPad. The only time I miss it is when I'm reading long PDF documents and would rather lay back and hold the iPad (after removing the keyboard I bought but hardly ever used) in hand rather than sit up and read from my laptop. But one can buy a much cheaper 9.7" iPad to serve that purpose.
