Is there a way to check that the Apple Pencil I sold is the right one if I get it back? A way to check the serial number for example, against the box packaging?

Have a feeling this could be a bait n switch trick on eBay.

The guy who bought it is spanish, I'm in UK, and he sent me a message in spanish saying he tried the pencil on various iPads and it doesn't connect to any of them'.

It was a brand new Apple pencil, I have a feeling he's either clueless or dodgy, with the pencil being defective the lesser third possibility.

The serial number should be embedded on the Apple Pencil and box. Similar to what the Apple Watch is. I don't know if any of your pictures that you listed on eBay included pictures of the serial number being photographed or not either.

Gutted, I only took some crappy side on picture of the apple pencil box. I don't actually know the serial of the original pencil.

Bluffing the guy at the moment, told him I want a picture of the box serial to make sure that it matches the serial of the box I sent. The said that the pencil has a serial too and they should all match up.

Will see what he messages back with next. If he's legit he'll simply do what I ask to get his return.

That was going to be my next suggestion, was have the buyer photograph the Apple Pencil and box, then send you the pictures. Likely they are trying to scam you.

Let us know how it goes. Good luck.

There is the chance that he is trying to use it on a normal iPad and its not working. I can't imagine that most people have access to loads of iPad Pros to test the pencil on. Normal iPads on the other hand are very common.

In the end he would ignore my requests to contact Apple support and send me chat transcript. eBay got involved and said I had to accept return, so fine accepted return.

He said it was posted, but weeks later, nothing.

Definitely up to something dodgy this guy.

As long as he is trying to use it on an iPad PRO, it should work. "Various" other iPads won't work.

The serial number is on the lightning connector on the pencil. You can remove the cap and check it against your box.
