Soley rely on iDisk?

Should I soley rely on iDisk for my school documents and files? Since all of my school stuff are office 2008 and iwork 09 documents. This is all I keep in my iDisk. Do you think it is a safe method to keep your files in sync in ways that if idisk was to actually crash, I would still be able to back it up?

I remember when I somehow disable iDisk or something and it had to resync everything but then I found a folder called "Previous local iDisks" on my desktop and it contained my previous files! :) I don't know if I should soley rely on iDisk in keeping my files syncing with my MBP and mac mini 2.53. What i mean by safe is, it won't get erased permanently if it ever crashed from apples server.

I'm a little confused as to what you're asking. Are you asking if it is safe to have your files on your idisk and nowhere else? Or are you asking if it is safe to have your idisk be your only backup of your local files?
 
Using iDisk is as risky as any cloud source out there I'd imagine. I would use iDisk and then have a redundancy backup solution. I would suggest looking into something free and perhaps local just in case. iDisk relies on your subscription to MobileMe. In the event you want to cancel you also lose your iDisk space.
 
I would never solely depend on idisk or any storage in the 'cloud' to store my only copy of a document. I would always prefer to have a local copy and then use idisk as a backup.
 
Well at least I'm not the only one who isn't totally sold on the cloud.
 
I would never trust a company to look after the sole copy of any document and jessica. we need to stop meeting out here!
 
both my wife and I use my idisk exclusively for all our docs....no issues, very handy when you are constantly switching between a home desktop and a laptop.
 
I'm getting a new mac mini tomorrow thats why and hopefully everything will work seamlessly with my MBP! I've been soley using the iDisk for all my files and I don't have to carry around any flash drives and not worry about syncing files across my computers...
 
The idea of having all of your files stored in the cloud and able to be accessed from anywhere sounds great and it's very useful, but I'd also recommend having a local copy as well for backup purposes (aside from the local mirror of your iDisk, I mean).
 
Do this...

Use iDisk, you can trust it as long as you take a few precautions...

1) Turn on local iDisk. This way you have a local copy as well as the one on apple's servers.

2) Backup your local iDisk (along with your mac) with time machine and/or maybe something else like superduper to an external (firewire 800) drive.

Now you have 3 copies: On your Mac, in the cloud, on a external drive. I would consider that a safe backup strategy.

* If you want to be extra safe add DropBox to the mix. They give you 2 gigs for free and it works really, really well. Now you are backed up X 4... 2 different locations in the cloud.

You also have the added benifit of being able to acess your files from any pc or mac on me.com or DropBox as well as your iPhone if you have one.
 
I use it soley. I don't have a local copy on either my iMac or my work laptop. As long as you have an internet connection that is decent accessing your files really isn't that big a deal.

Every two weeks I copy the files to my desktop, archive it and timemachine it to my timecapsule. Honestly, if I didn't do this last paragraph I would still be okay with just the idisk...

Since 2003 .mac / mobileme has lost some portion of my important data at least 5 times and after considerable effort, it was not retrievable.

backup, backup, backup...
