Possible solution to widely reported issues of third party webcams not working on the new M1 mac minis. I have the new M1 Mac Mini and purchased several webcams that would not work! The Mac mini detected webcam but no VIDEO. The latest webcam I have the Logitech Pro HD C920S. Support from Apple and third party manufacturers could not resolve problem.

Solution discovered that worked for me like a charm! And may work for others. I struggled to find solutions on forums and just wanted to share my discovery.

In short. My "administrator" profile I.e. the profile you log into computer seems to be the culprit. I created a "guest standard" profile and logged into it. Connected the webcam and bam! Worked like a charm. I did not download any logitech software or the like....it just worked. Zoom was used and FaceTime. All worked without a hitch!. Hope this helps others.

I have the Logitech C920 and I just plugged it in and it worked.

Only thing I've needed to do is to give permissions to programs to access the web cam.

Weird if you need you jump through hoops for it to work.

EDIT:// Go to "security and integrity" chose the "integrity" tab and find "camera" in the list and just check the box for the apps you want to allow to access the camera.

Thanks for your feedback. Did you mean "security and Privacy". I do not see "integrity" in Big Sur 11.3. Yes it is that simple as I discovered by creating another "profile". For some reason, my original admin profile is either corrupted or needs a setting adjustment.

It should be easy to fix that! Just don’t run any software and better have the Finder the only thing running! The go to you folder by holding down the ‘Option’ key and go to your Home folder and look for sun folder for ‘Preferences” and find the Finder preference and move that file to the Trash can. Then reset any System Preferences again that you want and this should fix your problem!

this blog post should help with the steps (that haven’t changed):https://mandarapte.com/apple/reset-...shoot-finder-issues-deleting-its-preferences/

Yeah sorry, I did mean ”security and privacy”, I’m running swedish as system language and in swedish integritet = privacy (and also integrity in a different context). It was a sloppy translation from my side :)

Glad I found this thread; I've got a Logitech cam that's not working currently. Hopefully I can try these solutions when I get home tonight.
