Finally got access to Apple Pay cash last night.

Figured I would go ahead and verify myself.

It asked for things like my address, last four of my SS, my full social, and a front and back picture of my drivers license. A few seconds later, I got a message that verification failed and I wouldn’t be able to use Apple Pay Cash anymore and to contact Apple Support.

Called Apple this morning and they took my details and then transferred me to a specialist at GreenDot bank? She said there was nothing they could do and asked if there was anything else.

Summary: don’t do the additional verification unless prompted because if you fail it, Apple doesn’t care nor have they developed a process to unblock customers.

Overall bad experience. I also use Apple Pay daily and I’ve had my Apple ID for 10+ years

That seems really weird that they would require all those hoops if you already have Apple pay enabled?

Do you have two factor enabled on your Apple ID? Wondering if you were breached or something and they are taking extra precautions?

But heck, what do I know... all this new fangled tech is too advanced for me and my 6s on 11.1.

Its odd how its asking for different forms of verification. i enrolled during the beta period a few weeks ago. All I had to do was give my birthdate and last 4 of SSN. No picture ID required.

I did have a problem with my card (or rather its interaction with McDonald's mobile ordering app). The McDonald's app placed several orders without giving confirmation, draining the funds I had on my APC card. Green Dot was able to reverse the transactions and restore my $$$ to my card. So they are doing something right!

It asked for my Bday and SS, but nothing about my Driver's License. Had zero issues verifying my identity.

The issue was resolved. GreenDot is the bank that performs the verification. I called into Apple a second time and was put into touch with a GreenDot employee who knew a lot more.

They cancelled my Apple Pay Cash account, which allowed me to go through the verification process again. This time I was approved.

Annoying that the first call/ Green Dot employee knew nothing but luckily the second time around was a lot better support.

Good to go!

Now I’m confused.

At first I read the virtual debit card Apple Pay Cash uses was Green Dot.

Today I read it’s Discover, but your experience was with Green Dot — which would mean Discover is not powering the virtual debit card?

Green Dot is the financial institution behind the Discover Card. Just like different banks can issue Visa or MasterCard? Same thing.

I didn’t go through the process completely, and now it’s completey turned off on my phone. However I did notice for the minute or two I had it on it did say Discover. Never put in my ssn.

But no banks issue Discover, so I’m not sure how it works in this case...

Interesting. Thanks. I’ll have to research this a bit more.

Yup, I was a little confused, but I know it said discover and I don’t have a discover card. It was under the Apple Pay cash settings.
