My MacBook 16" M1 Max does not stay awake after locking it (and playing music) - but only if connected to a Thunderbolt 3 Docking station (WAVLINK Thunderbolt 3 Docking Station). I am trying to figure out if anyone else has this issue? Simple test:
  1. Play music (Apple music or Spotify)
  2. Lock screen (CMD+Control+Q)
  3. After screen turns off (~5 seconds), does the music stop?
  4. If screen stays on, you are not affected
For me, screen turns off, Music stops, machine goes to deep sleep.
By design, playing music should prevent a Mac from sleeping. You can verify this like so:

➜ ~ pmset -g
System-wide power settings:
Currently in use:
sleep 0 (sleep prevented by powerd, Music, coreaudiod)

It works as expected with an Intel Mac + the same Dock.

Ok, this is resolved, and I went down the wrong path:

My sound turns off, because the M1 mac always turns off the display now when locked - and my speakers are connected to the my main display ?

Fixed by connecting my speakers to the TB3 Dock

I have similar problem caused by this behavior. My monitor, will not output power from USB-C when it goes into sleep, and if my M1 Mac goes into sleep, it turns the monitor into sleep mode. After that, the monitor cuts the power delivery, than M1 Mac will think the power source is disconnected, and goes into deep sleep as well.

The power management definitely changed; my setup worked before.

Thread should be closed or at least the title be changed to reflect user issue rather than product issue.
