M4 iPad Pro 13"

Apple's Magic Keyboard

This drove us whacky trying to figure it out. We've had the M4 iPad Pro 13" and Magic Keyboard since Apple released them.

Today, the cursor for the trackpad started jumping to the upper-left corner of the screen and taking focus with it, i.e., it interrupted typing in any app and required moving the cursor back to the edit point to continue typing. This happened about every 10 to 30 seconds and made the iPad almost unusable for typing.

FAILED FIXES

• powered the iPad off and on

• removed the iPad from the Magic Keyboard and put it back (only helped for about 5 min)

• iPadOS Setting: disabled pointer animation

• iPadOS Settings: one by one, toggled all other pointer motion settings

NOTES: the cursor jumped more frequently while viewing the pointer motion setting page; a section of that settings page disappeared and reappeared quickly when the cursor jumped.

• disabled Apple Intelligence because we enabled it earlier in the day before the jumping cursor problem (didn't help so re-enabled it)

SUCCESSS

• used our unusual situation of having two other new Magic Keyboards and another M4 iPad Pro to test

• discovered a combination where the cursor jumping stopped with a different ac power adapter (ugh!)

FIX

• a different ac power adapter

NOTE: if swapping components hadn't uncover the problem, next up was Reset All Settings in Settings / General / Reset.
