Today, my girlfriend phoned AppleCare for the 3rd time, regarding various problems.

Today she phone in reference to a weird problem that occurred after a startup. The screen remained black, and she had to sleep it for 15 - 20 minutes and it would then display correctly.

Now, the guy on the phone was very helpful, and very honest.

He told her something that i was unaware of regarding their policy on laptops. Something that isn't actually listed anywhere on their site or in their AppleCare packs.

They tend not to take laptops back unless you have phoned 4-5 times regarding the same issue.

Can anyone confirm this is true? That is disgusting if so!

Rich.

Dude, that doesn't make any sense.

Apple has frequently replaced a laptop for me on the first call.

I'm sure it's the nature of the issue that your describing that's causing the delay. They have no 4-5 call policy for laptops, or any computer, for that matter.

The issues are:

No active display after a startup
Whine
Moo
Constantly Popping Speakers

That's plenty reasons to accept a laptop back, but they wouldn't.

Applecare

I called AC today for the first time in my life.

My 15's HD crashed. No problem. Package headed this way asap.

I didn't get the sense Apple was gunshy about taking things back.
