I am coming from a Windows Phone which seems to make a lot of what I want to do easy compared with an iPhone (6) (v8.1.2) :/

I also am NOT using iCloud for anything apart from backups of the phone. iCloud Drive, Photos, Mail, Contacts, Calendars... none of it is "on", apart from the "Backup" and "Find My iPhone", as everything else is sync'd to Outlook or OneDrive.

Sync'd Photos from Facebook / Twitter
I have read here:
http://everydaylife.globalpost.com/activate-iphone-facebook-pictures-contacts-21015.html

which hasn't worked.

I have an Outlook account added, which has populated my "Contacts" with contacts. I've downloaded and logged into Facebook app (not the chat app), and went to settings to sync contacts but it just says 0 updated. The only ones it updated are people who I don't have telephone numbers for, but who now appear in my contacts. However, despite there being a "John Smith" on Facebook and a "John Smith" in my contacts, for some reason, the iPhone is not seeing a link.

I also want to link people's Twitter accounts to them in Contacts. But the same happens - 0 contacts updated.

Delete Certain Contacts
Unless I am mistaken, there seems to be no way to delete an individual contact from my "Contacts". Press and hold on the contact, no menu. Go into the contact, no "Delete" option.
I may want them on Facebook, but that doesn't mean I want them (minus a telephone number!) in my address book.

Stop the Swoosh for Sending Test Messages
Apart from messing about setting custom incoming tones for everyone, or turning off the incoming sound, there is no way to get rid of the "swoosh" - correct? How dull :/

Any ideas?

Delete contact

1 push phone button from main window
2push little persons head at bottom to put u into "contacts"
3select contact to delete
4 push edit
5 scroll down to bottom of window push "Delete Contact"

Have fun this is my first iphone too coming from Android.

I don't have a "Delete Contact".
I just have "Linked Contacts" at the bottom of the contact profile.

It will pull a photo through if the contact has a photo in Outlook.com but can't seem to link them to Facebook profiles/photos.

I believe if the contact is only from your Facebook and you don't have a number for, the only way to get rid of it is to no longer have it sync with your Facebook contacts. I've never tried this but you could try turning of the Facebook sync and seeing if the Facebook contact remains, if so then delete it and turn Facebook sync back on if you want. Of course if you hit the update button again it will come back.

As far as the texting sounds.... I'm not quite sure what you are wanting to do. It sounds like you want to turn the texting tone sounds off but not off... Which confuses me. If you go to settings then sounds then scroll down and tap on text tone... Then scroll up to the top of the list of tones and there should be a "none" option. In that settings > sounds page you can turn off or adjust any of the sounds various things produce. Does this answer your question? If your just wanting to temporarily silence them(and all sounds) just flip the switch on the left side of your phone above the volume buttons down so that you see a reddish orange color. This is silent mode.

Re read your post. Your ok with your text sounds but you want to get rid of the swoosh when you send an email correct? Option to do that is in the same place. Go to settings > sounds and then either new mail or sent mail (whichever one you want to be silent or change) you then should make sure your scrolled up to the very top of the options of sounds to choose from then select "none" I hope
I'm understanding you correctly and this helps you out. If not feel free to tell me I'm confused and if be happy to try to help ya! I'm sure coming from windows phone this is quite a change! I promise once you get the hang of it all it actually makes a lot of sense and becomes very easy and second nature! Hang in there and welcome to iPhone and iOS!!! Enjoy!

Hi

No, it turns out you can't get rid of the sent text message "swoosh" without JB the device and renaming the file.

Just like you can't turn off the shutter sound in the camera.

Of course you can do both turning the phone on silent but that's faff when I just want them off. I guess I am slowly learning how high Apple's walled garden goes!

As for the Facebook issue, it turns out none of my contacts are sync'd anyway so I may just go into a store and quiz the guru on why it's so complicated to sync all my contacts under the Contacts app.

Thanks though, useful information :)

Ahhh I totally misunderstood what you were trying to do with the swoosh sound. I thought you meant the sound that it makes when you send an email from the email app. Didn't realize you meant the sound that happens when YOU send a text message. Tbh I've never really paid attention enough to that sound to even think of trying to turn it off, so we both learned something new! Sorry for not being able to help!
