Sorry if these are redundant for some, but I've been reading and searching lately on the subject and trying to wrap my head around all the info I've found.

I have some basic questions I'm not sure I've found definitive answers for:

Is there an untethered jailbreak available for iPhone 4s on IOS 6?

If not, can you download then downgrade to IOS 5.x first, then jailbreak, or would it be advisable to wait for a jailbreak for IOS 6 to be released?

If the phone is factory unlocked (for GSM) will it remain so after jailbreak, or need another unlock?

Are there other indicators or settings on the phone that you need to be aware of that would show that a particular phone is possibly un-jailbreakable (i.e. modem firmware, serial #, etc.)?

RedSn0w or Absinthe, what is the difference, which is better/easier, why?

hi,
im not sure of all the answers but ill tell u what i know.
to downgrade iOS from 6 to 5.x you need to have the blobs saved (or so i've read in various other discussions), else you wont be able to.
As far as i know there is no untethered JB for iOS 6, so you would need to wait.
If your phone is factory unlocked, it will indeed remain that away after jailbreaking.
Every phone is jailbreakable, as long as there's a jailbreak out. iOS 6 however doesnt have an untethered jailbreak out, so its obviously not jailbreakable. You can however get a tethered JB on ios 6, but i wouldn't recommend that.
Not sure on the differnce betw redsnow and absinthe. on my iphone 4, i had redsnow however, and JB my phone by following steps from iclarified.com and the process was extremely simple and took me about 7-10 mins. very easy to follow. not sure bout absinthe, but i recommend redsnow.
hope my limited knowledge helped. :)

1) no untehtered or tethered JB on iOS 6 for the A5 4S, there is a tethered JB for A4 devices(IP4) and the 3GS.

2) Currently if on iOS 6 you cannot downgrade to 5.X even if you have blobs it can't be done.

3) Yes it will remain unlocked

4) Absinthe is the original JB release, it only JBs. Redsn0w has the Absinthe method incorporated and has many other very useful functions; restores, retrieving blobs, etc. Neither will work on iOS 6 on the 4S for the moment.

Thx guys. Every little tidbit of info helps me out. And taking them all into consideration helps me to understand it better too. :)
