Some (downloaded) movies not showing up in the list

For instance, I got 2 seasons of the TV show 'Lost'.

Season 1 (ripped from my DVDs) comes up fine on the AppleTV but Season 4 (downloaded and converted to AppleTV format using VisualHub) doesn't.
It's worth noting that these episodes have subtitles in the file (done with Submerge) ... does that matter?

It's also worth noting that the device has been 'patched' using one of those aTV Patch sticks and they STILL don't know show up.

Anyone know how to fix this or what the problem is?

can u add it to itunes? does it work? maybe format got screwed up some how.

Yes, I can add it to iTunes and it plays well in iTunes.

I meam that there are somd formatting issues on with the files that arent allowing them to work properly on the ATV. Visual hub is a great program but its hard to get the settings perfect all the time. I would reconsider the settings u aqe using and reconvert. Post these rettings on here so that we can have a look for you.

but from now on i'll be using my turbo.264 on the appleTV setting ... so that'll work?

well thats quite odd then. the quality man be a tad to high?? its a preset though so i imagine that it should be fine..

just use your turbo.264 and see how that goes

It was converted from a HD .mkv file, so maybe it's the quality that's a bit too much.
I'm gonna connect my appleTV to a pretty old Bang&Olufsen tv (highest output is SD, I believe, 480p) so maybe I should start downloading DVD quality movies instead of HD quality?

that could be why, with my mkv files i just convert them into .mov (by opening in QuickTime Pro and going "Save as"). it makes it MUCH easier to convert.

audio can go up to 320kbps..

p.s. a note on resolutions: appletv can support (apparently, from what i understand) 1280x720 pixels.. which is 921,600 pixels. this means that as long as you dont go over that pixel count you can go above 1280/720..

E.g. you could have a file with 1300x600 resolution because its less than 921,600 pixels..

I didn't know the 'save as...' thingie even worked. Are you able to import them in itunes then and play them on your aTV?

1. hahaha everything apple works, well... not in your case lol...

2. uummm... once you convert to .mov you should definetely be able to play in itunes, not 100% sure if it will play on AppleTV (most likely not because the quality can be too high).

try this:
once your movie is in itunes right click on it and select "Convert selection for appletv".. see how that goes..

Alright, I did some further testing.

One episode of 'Lost', in HD, converted from an MKV file.
The same episode, but in SD, converted from an AVI file.

The SD worked, the HD didn't.
So it must be the MKV codec, right?

I'm getting sick of these codec issues.
