Some help for my room?

So, I'm trying to improve my bedrooom on the cheap. Here's some pics and specific stuff I'm looking for, but any general advice would be helpful, both on organization and making things look nice. thanks!

How can I get that sticker and stuff rubbed off the bunkbed paneling? And any quick way to brush up that wood so it doesn't look so crappy?
Any ideas on how to organize my shoes besides just lined on the floor there?

Couch is really ugly..any ideas on a cheap DIY slip cover? I think my mom might have an idea on that one actually..but how should it be fastened?
Also I'd like to remove that thing under the TV because it takes up room and 99% of the time the TV isn't sitting on it..but idk where i would set the tv the few times that I do need it.

Close up of the window from the above pic. Right now it has a broken blind on it. I'm thinking of replacing it with a blackout curtain.

I don't have anywhere to do homework, so i'd like to put a small table to the left of my computer desk. There isn't a whole lot of space there though, cuz i wouldn't want it to go in front of the window..hmm. So either buy a longer computer desk, or find a really small table.

Cleaned out my closet. You can see that folded door on the side, which IMO is pretty nasty looking. i had the idea of putting a curtain over the closet, but don't know how to do it without it looking odd(like theres a windows there or something)

I take it you are the sole occupant of the room? Quick tip: convert one of those bunk beds into storage space.

Can of wood stain and a brush for the bedframe.

First thing I would do is put the shoes in the closet on the floor. Find a way to clean up/reduce the number of clutter items. My guess is you don't need a heater and a fan out at the same time. Put one in the corner inside the closet. I would put your couch on the opposite side of the wall where your computer is at not so it doesn't go from the bed to the couch. Then maybe try to put all the artwork on the one wall or organize it so its not just a bunch of random placings all over the room.

To be honest there isn't much to work with. Its not the stuff on the bed that is distracting or the couch. If it bothers you, make your bed and place a comforter over it to hide it.

Edit: come to think of it, look into buying some primer and may black paint and consider painting all the furniture one solid color instead of different stains of wood. It wouldn't be too expensive and would pull everything together better. Just take the time to do it right otherwise it could turn out worse.

i would rly clean up, try to place the HW in files or something. place shoes in closet. get stain for the bed. make ur bed, it will look a lot better, and perhaps get some dark mahagony type stain for the bed. looks more classy. keep just one fan. u don't need more than one in a small room. and for ur homework doing needs, just use the space currently occupied by your macbook. stow the laptop away when not in use.

- clean up the mess first
- lose the couch and the hideous thing on the wall behind it; replace that area with a proper (larger) desk/work table for hw with adequate lighting
- your computer setup can go on the new desk, the tv can go on your existing desk
- fix the mess of wires on the window side of the room
- don't you have a chest of drawers? you use those to keep the clothes off other furniture/strewn about
- lose the bunkbed & replace with a normal twin/double size bedframe & matress
- lose the floor lamps and get some new table lamps

Do you really need the couch in your room? Also if you have the room all to yourself I would take off the top bunkbed and but a shelf there. As for the TV get one of the holders that hang on the wall for it. I would also get some paint for the walls since they look a little dirty.

You should really tide up, especially your clothes. This would really improve. Or try to get a giant closet where you could put all that stuff. Beside that, your room looks quite large that's cool.

I always take every single thing out of the room then paint the walls with something nice like a white colour or go all out with blue and have a feature wall. Then replace the carpet with wood or get a carpet steam cleaner. Then put back all the basics like Computer, Desk , Bed , Wardrobe. Now if you need new furniture you start there like for e.g you could use a new desk. Then have a single bed and not a bunk bed. And from their just put in what you need and keep everything neat and tidy.

Seriously though and this is just my opinion. Take the artwork down. Get rid of the bunk bed or just lop off the top making it a single bed. You could also take off the bottom part and put the desk under there, I have seen that look nice before.

Clean up the wiring. Put lamp in the corner.

But clean up and retake pics, that will make it easier.

1. Take everything out of the room.
2. Repair and paint the walls. Paint it a relaxing/calming color such as green or even blue. Paint the ceiling white, or a different shade of your wall color. Paint the inside of the closet, too
3. Have the carpet steam cleaned.
4. Wash the window inside and out and put up a window treatment. A blackout curtain is a good, cheap choice. If your walls are medium or light blue, buy a navy blue blackout curtain.
5. Plan the outlay of your furniture before moving anything back in.
6. Go through every item you bring back into the room. Throw away, donate, or keep. Donate books you no longer use.
7. Get a file cabinet or a filing system to prevent clutter from coming back.
8. Use only one of the beds. Get rid of the couch.
9. Buy a good, ergonomic computer chair that you can use to watch tv and that functions as your main chair in the room.
10. Get rid of the lamps. Buy a natural light floor lamp and natural light table lamp.

If getting new furniture (like a bed) is out of the cards, use Goo-Gone to get the sticker residue off and then sand and stain the bed. It will be a big project, but won't cost much to get the sandpaper and wood stain. You can have it looking close to brand new.

You need a good storage solution for all your items. Follow the tips on what the others have given you. For Ikea, if you have a store nearby. Do walk around. You will have ideas in your head on how you want your room to be like. Ikea has some really terrific storage solutions for your stuff. It would be better to trim your stuff, by throwing things you dont need, or giving it away to charity/homes etc.

You room can be very cosy if you have a central idea/theme and a good storage solution.

Wow thanks for all this help. I've already started doing some of the easier suggestions and i'll move on to others later(repainting room, varnishing bunk bed, steam cleaning carpet).

My brother comes back from college on breaks and the summer, so I can't remove the bunk bed or the TV. I'll probably rearrange things tho

Currently it's white but very dirty and mucked up.

I'm worried that blue would clash with my Persian rugs though(especially since I'm planning on hanging another on the wall somewhere).

Should I do anything about these scratches and marks on the wall or just paint over them?

What type/brand of paint should I look for. Rollers or brushes? And how should I keep it from dripping on the carpet when I go to do it?

Fantastic improvement! It's really a world of a difference. As for paint, I think it'd be really nice with a darker color from a warm color palette. In my opinion a brown would probably look good. The only trouble with dark colored walls is then the color of the carpet. I don't see it looking bad with your creme carpet though.

If you keep the furniture and the rugs then def no blue, blue and wood/light brown dont go good together. I prefer white or beige walls, nothing too dark because the furnitures are dark and heavy already, now you need something fresh and light to balance all this, then your good to go. Oh and replace your sofa with something lighter and modern.

Although it's worlds ahead of what it was, it will benefit from more cleaning. Your room will be completely different if you are able to cut the clutter on the countertops, hide the fan, and put something else up on the walls.

Why not get rid of the top bunk and make it into a single, then switch the sofa for one which is also a pull out bed... That way, you get more space, and your brother still has a place to sleep.

I'm guessing that during the summer the hassle of a pull-out bed would be too much. A full pull out sofa might also be too big for the room. I've seen chair sized convertibles at IKEA and other places, so that might be a workable solution.
