This started sometime last week. Randomly some iMessages won’t send, the blue bubble just sits there and won’t go through unless I send it as a regular green text message. The odd part is that it only happens with one particular person, haven’t noticed it with anyone else. Is there a fix to this? I’ve already restarted my iPhone 12 Pro Max multiple times and that hasn’t helped. 😤

Sounds like they may have changed from an iPhone to an Android. You can try to delete their contact info, delete their message thread from your phone and then add the contact info again. If they did switch to android, they should also go to https://selfsolve.apple.com/deregister-imessage/

It also might be that they turned off iMessage on their phone. Either way, it sounds like their issue, not yours.

There are times in a mixed group, iPhone / Android, where text messages show up a day late, or not at all. One or the other, Google / Apple changed something.

I usually get snobby and just create new groups with only iPhone users. This whole RMS/SMS/Proprietary nonsense is forcing folks to have several messaging apps on their phones for various people they contact.

It Sucks.

They have an iPhone and when this issue happens we are actively messaging and some messages go thru and some don’t, they just sit there unless I send them as texts. They aren’t doing anything on their end and haven’t changed any settings.

Then it's probably a weak signal issue on either your or their end. If it's attempting to go thru while one of you is in a weak area, an iMessage will time out and switch to SMS after a short time. The time out period for SMS is longer. This can easily happen no matter if on Wifi or Cellular and one of you moves to a weak area for a moment. I've had it happen occasionally when texting one particular family member. He is usually always going through the same weak signal area near his home. Even calls to him drop out or break up when he's in the same area. You might try determining where each of you are when this happens. Still don't believe it's a fixable phone issue. It happens, and not just to you.

Then I'll wait for someone with more knowledge to chime in with an answer that you find acceptable or wait for you to use the search function on to find the hundreds of other people with the same type of issue and the hundreds of suggestions that also reference what you consider "lame", poor, flimsy, BS, cheap, feeble or some other cop-out. But then since mine was a "lame" excuse, you must already know what the cause and real fix is and didn't need to ask in the first place.

You need to chill. I wasn’t calling your explanation lame. I was calling the issue lame. I appreciate the info you provided. Talk about an overreaction. Maybe you should go for a walk, you sound stressed. Sheesh!

And for your information, I did search the forum before posting and did not see anyone else having the same issue. 🙄

Choice of words matter as do the terms used in a search function.

I have had this happen. My wife has 2 iPhones. Personal and work. Only happened once. What we did to solve the issue is delete the thread with each other and start fresh. Problem solved and never been an issue again. Hope this info helps.

Same.... iMessage is nice but I can only hope they're working on a faster switch to SMS or still send even in low signal areas. Yet other apps work fine just about 100% of the time (Facebook Messenger/Instagram/TikTok/WhatsApp/etc...)
