Some iPhone screens do scratch easily

I've seen the various videos of stress-testing the iPhone and although they did put the iPhone in with a bag of keys and shook it up, I'm extra careful not to keep anything in the same pocket as my iPhone. My wife on the other hand, gave it a try and the test failed. Well, not on purpose. I told her to keep her iPhone in a separate pouch in her purse so it doesn't rub against anything that could potentially scratch it.

She did a good job for the last few weeks, but I guess she was in a rush this morning or something. She happened to put her phone in the same compartment that had her keys and a pen. When she pulled it out, there was a pretty visible scratch across the glass. Of course I was pretty upset as it's only a few weeks old and I told her countless times to keep it in a safe place. Anyways, I don't know if there are iPhones with different glass material floating around, but her phone scratched pretty easily and it's a shame. Just a word of caution to play it safe even though that cnet video shows how much damage it can potentially withstand.

Bummer...but again, the reports are that its strong...not harmable....but as always I'll be watching over mine.

thanks for your post. after reading this i decided to fully inspect my screen and i did notice two very tiny pin prick specks a few milimeters apart. definitely not dirt, since i couldn't get them off after much treatment with iKlean.

i've been babying the iPhone and only put it in my purse in a separate compartment with nothing else but my metro card....

i'm not upset, but its just evidence that the screen is not a JesusScreen.

i started out with a powersuport film on my iPhone on day 1, but took it off last week after reading the boards here. just now, i installed my 2nd powersupport film and its gonna stay there. dings on metal are one thing but i'd like to preserve the screen as long as possible.

Glass is a strong substance but if hit the right way it will scratch or even break. I see no reason not to use a screen protector. It barely changes the feel and they are pretty cheap.

Why wouldn't everyone stick a crystal film on it?

I can't even tell the difference with it on.

I have put my iPhone through hell and it has held up really well scratching wise.

Smudges get bad but thats ok

you can make out the edge of the film, yes. There is a slight gap where the screen meets the chrome. You can also notice it around the ear slot up top and the home button.

Is it perfect? no, but in normal useage you don't even know it's there.

funny thing is i've had my all glass molded coffee table for 3 years now.. not a scratch on it and we've partied hard near and around it. definitely stronger glass than the iphone

its all fun and games until you notice a blemish on your iphone screen after only 2.75 weeks of super-babied use... i cant ever undo the fact that i should never have listened to all you goons and removed my power support screen protector for fear of being the "gramma with the couch covers" on her iphone

luckily, with the screen protector back on you can't see the wee marks at all.. you can barely see the pin pricks in sunlight with the screen off but i know its there

I got an extremely small scratch on the glass after it slid off my lap in the car between the seat and the center console. I'm guessing it hit something with the seat belt assembly. I was so pissed after i noticed it, even though you really have to look hard for it. So i decided to get a screen protector. Well, that lasted about a week, and I've decided to just let it be how it is. If I'm not planning on selling it, it's pretty pointless for me to obsess over a scratch or two.

There is a fine balance to be struck between enjoying your iPhone, on the one hand, and being worried to death about damage, on the other.

I find that the same principle applies if you buy an expensive car.

very sorry to hear about the scratch on your iphone. Maybe apple can replace the screen for a nominal cost.

I have always applied screen protectors to my electronics devices. Scratches on the screen would really bother me, so i have always compromised a bit of the beauty of the naked screen for the added protection against scratches.

I have a boxwave screen protector on the iphone. The screen still looks good, but obviously not quite as sweet as without one.

Unfortunately, the screens used in these devices do not yet seem to be at the point of being subjected to regular heavy use in all situations without risk of scratching.

Just my 2 cents.......
