I upgraded from Snow Leopard to ML 10.8.5 yesterday and immediately afterward, my Apple bluetooth keyboard went wonky. Specifically, some of the keys have become "paired", so that pressing either key of the pair will result in the output of both keys.

For example, pressing either "t" or "o" will print "to". Pressing "5" or "9" will print "59". And pressing Command or "n" will input <Command-n>. There are 1 or 2 more. The rest of the keys work fine.

It is always the same set of keys which are problematic.

The keyboard is the Apple bluetooth aluminum A1314. I have used it for a few years with the same Macbook 5,1 without problem. The problem happened immediately after upgrading to Mountain Lion.

The problem also happens in Safe Mode.

I have tried:
- Resetting the PRAM and SMC
- Deleting the keyboard & bluetooth preferences
- Deleting the keyboard from Bluetooth, turning it off, and pairing it again
- Checking the keyboard layout, accessibility, keyboard, dictation options
- Cleaning the affected keys
- Putting in fresh batteries

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Same problem here

I have the same problem after upgrading to 10.8.5, except that I am using a logitech keyboard. Some keys are linked to each other. The internal keyboard on MBP works fine though.

Have you found the solution yet?

The 'linked keys problem' suddenly stopped after a few days. I have no idea why.

Unfortunately, the problem simply changed into another problem and I now have 2 keys that simply don't work. Specifically, F5 and tilde.

The bizarre thing is that these 2 keys were fine prior to this. So all the 'linked keys' suddenly went back to normal, while 2 completely different keys stopped working.

Wish I could help, but I have absolutely no idea what is going on...

For posterity's sake, here's what happened with the keyboard.

For 2 weeks, I lived with the keyboard having 2 non-functioning keys. Then one day while I was working on a text file, many of the keys suddenly became cross-linked again so that typing either 'q' or 't' would result in 'qt', for example.

I wound up buying an identical replacement keyboard, and everything has been fine since....
