I was thinking that when the NMP is released and is shipping in significant numbers and building a significant user base it might have to have it's own desktop or Pro section as it will have very little in common with the old model. :(

I imagine there will be several new folks that will be posting about the NMP also. New blood! :)

But I'm sure that people that have been a part of the OMP section and upgraded to the NMP will occasionally visit the OMP user section and the OMP users will be welcome to visit the NMP section also. All being good neighbors. :apple:

Since it is still a Mac Pro, users of both form factors of the Mac Pro (cheese grater and trash can of course), will still use ONE sub-forum.

Or do you see a dedicated sub-forum for the MacBook Pro with Retina Display or iPad mini here?

Agreed. There's plenty of space for discussions about both products. Though in reality, the form-factors are so different people will probably be discussing totally different things.

The top posts on here are mostly about how to upgrade processors and video cards. nMP users wont have to worry about that much :)

That's correct. We do not add forums for updated models and the Mac Pro forum will remain as the forum for discussing Apple's professional and prosumer desktops.
 
I sort of agree with the OP because, say, someone makes a thread about how to upgrade a graphics card and someone with the newer model tries to do that and totally breaks their machine or buys an expensive piece of hardware that won't work? However I also agree with the other posts because there was the same thing with the rMBP and how you can't really upgrade anything.

Then that someone is really not capable of reading or comprehension, and I am at loss for words, imagining such incident. Who in the wrong mind would do that?
 
I think most if not all MP users are sensible enoughto be able to tell if a thread is pertaining to their harware.

I dont really see any need to have a seperate section for the new Mac Pro. Its easier to just keep it as it is now.

Personally I look forward to reading threads about the new one even though I shall likely never buy one.

Thats my five pence for what its worth...

Perhaps the mods need to add a sticky thread, warning people with new Mac Pros that they shouldn't try and fit the following:

1. 5.25" floppies.
2. ISA parallel and serial cards.
3. Ejector seat.
4. Toaster.
5. Hamster wheel.

Just to be on the safe side.

Phew! A least my NuBus SCSI card isn't on that list so I should be ok to use it to hook up my single-speed WORM drive then ;)

Upgrading CPUs is different across various models of Mac Pros. Some older systems don't work easily with newer graphics cards. You can't get new versions of OS X on old Mac Pros without hacks. Memory configurations have always been complex for the optimal setups and changed over models. The list goes on.

One forum will be fine, we are capable of communicating which model things are for.
 
Having many sub-topics might also mean more work for the moderators. I think for now the current setup is fine.
 
The name is the same, but the new Mac Pro has very little to do with the classic Mac Pro design or hardware wise. I think even the demographics of users is going to change pretty drastically. Honestly I think Apple should have gone with a new name. It's like if Ford changed the F150 truck into a 2 door coupe but kept calling it a F150 because it was a familiar name.
 
other subforums in this site use brackets (which I always thought we should have used anyway)

So going down the list you can have threads like

[MP3.1]My ********G power supply just failed for the 5th time!
[MP5.1]MY MAC PRO IS BETTER THAN THE NEW ONE, here is 327 reasons why
[MP6.1]Hey someone just threw their banana peel in my new mac pro! WTF?!

So people can easily recognize what threads pertain to what.

This blatant discrimination against Hamsters is unacceptable and should be prohibited by forum rules.

I don't think it will be a problem. nMP users will probably post to the iPad subforum. You know, they will have the same upgradability anyway ;)
