Some Movies and TV Shows not Showing Up on Apple TV

I can't make heads or tails of why this is happening. The movies and TV shows are SD and therefor definitely within the requirements of the Apple TV. The movies is Animal Crackers a Marx brothers movie and the shows are two Simpsons episodes. I hope one of you can shed some light on this cunudrum.

EDIT: P.S. I stream my media. Also when I try to put them on the Apple TV HDD it says they can't be played on the Apple TV.

What are the specifics of the video files in question? MP4? resolution?

Right click on the file in iTunes and then select "get info"

I encode all my video files in MPEG-4 with the extention m4v. The resolution is usually the same or a little smaller then the original. Thanks for replying by the way.

If some files work fine and some don't, the only thing that makes sense is that there is something different about those individual files. Do they play with no problems in iTunes?

Worst case scenario: right click on the file in itunes and select "convert to appletv". It's not perfect (it will technically give a generation loss of quality that is imperceptible to some people), and it converts slowly in itunes, however, it's easy and guaranteed to work.

This doesn't tell us how the files are encoded. MPEG-4 is the container, but what are the video and audio encoded in? For example, with the Apple TV Preset in Handbrake, you get an MPEG-4 container with (1) video encoded in H.264 at 59% constant quality, (2) AAC audio at 48 hz and 480 kbps, and (3) AC3 passthrough. Those are the details we need to know to help you with your problem.

I always encode with the normal preset in the case of certain animated shows, movies, or some older moves I set the deinterlace to slow or slower. Thats the only thing I change. Though Animal Crackers I know was encoded with the normal unchanged preset.

Use Detelicine + Decomb for TV shows. Never use deinterlace. If the content is interlaced, use decomb.

But those settings don't fix the image issue, deinterlacing does. Though I think all the movies and shows that aren't showing up were encoded with deinterlacing.

I encoded a problem episode with the Detelicine + Decomb combination and it worked even though it didn't show it in the preview. That also fix my problem. Thanks Volante.

did you add these movies after all the others in the library? i had problems with TV shows episodes not showing up in ATV after I added them to my itunes library, but after restarting the apple tv (i think i actually had to unplug it from the mains), itunes and my home network then the files showed up.

If you read my last post you'll see my problem was fixed, the problem was that I was encoding with deinterlacing on. I guess there can be a compatibility issue with Apple TV encoding with that on. Thanks for trying to help though.
