Hey everyone,

I was thinking of adding an SSD to my mid-2011 iMac and turning it into a fusion drive with those terminal commands. Is a home-brew fusion drive as reliable as an Apple one? I kind of want to make sure this isn't a risky hack.

Also, once the drives are fused together, will SMART utilities still be able to get readings on both drives, so I can keep an eye on bad block allocations?

Thanks!

Yes, a home brewed Fusion Drive is as reliable as Apples own as it uses the same software to make it a Fusion Drive. I have used a late 2009 with a home brewed Fusion Drive for 3 years now without any issues.
