I've been power PC for a long time, but I now have an iMac and want to install vista onto my C2D imac.

I've done a search and got lots of good information but still have a few questions.

1) is there an idiots guide to installing vista on my imac
2) is installing vista just the same as installing xp (which I've done once before)
3) do i need to download any drivers from anywhere or do the ones from bootcamp work?

also, any information that this idiot might not have asked for yet.

Thanks.

First of all, are you aware that Vista is not supported under Boot Camp?

Now, to answer your questions, it's pretty simple. The Vista installer is much easier than the XP one, and you shouldn't have any problems with it. The hardest part is selecting the correct volume to install onto - just find the one with the correct size (eg. If you make a 20 GB Windows volume in Boot Camp, be sure to select the 20 GB volume in the Windows installer).

Boot Camp's drivers won't work directly under Vista, but fortunately most of the drivers you need are provided on the Vista CDs/DVD. I've heard of people "tricking" Apple's drivers into working though.

I would assume that you will need to install the software and drivers for things like your printer and scanner if you intend to use those under XP / Vista

I had it on my macbook -easy peasy, although, for some reason, make sure the disk is extremely clean, which is not necessary with XP but causes problems with a vista install.

Btw, there's a thread around here somewhere that explains how to extract the drivers so they can be installed in Vista. Don't remember where though.
