Apple TV Some quick questions about jail breaking an Apple TV 2nd gen (running 4.4.4)

Im a total n00b regarding the Apple Tv jailbreak, so i have some quick questions here that would help me a lot if you please could help me answer:
  • Where can i find the official download link for the latest version off seas0nPass?
  • What programs/options get installed by defult when jailbreaking your Apple TV?
  • Is there a lot of bugs/glitches when it comes to jailbreaking the latest version off the Apple TV software/the 2nd gen. Apple TV in general?

1 - http://www.firecore.com
2 - by default, nothing gets installed, it just gets jailbroken. you can then install various things using different methods. I just use :apple:TV Flash (black)…
3 - this will depend a lot on the things you install, I've just got the firecore media player installed as that's the only thing I need the JB for. So that's not causing any bugs/glitches for me.

Thank you very much for your answer! Anybody here who knows anything more about TV Flash? (Where to download, how to install etc.?)
 
The only thing tav flash does is offer an easy way of installing the xbmc. If you are like me you will install the plugins for xbmc and use them most of the time.

XBMC doesn't integrate nicely with all the other aTV functions. It's like running a completely different OS on the device.

I much prefer the integrated feel of Firecore's media player to access my NAS drive, which is the only thing I used XMBC for before.

I wrote this only yesterday:

"I actually have ATV Flash (black)...

Only one subtitle file per film in ATV Flash is annoying for someone who usually keeps four, but I could live with renaming the files. Not being able to sync the subtitles during playback is also quite annoying, since it happens from time to time and it's more work than just renaming the file to re-sync them on the computer. Same goes with not being able to sync the audio during playback, should there be a problem in the rip. Skipping back and forth in a film to find a certain scene or what not is so slow in ATV Flash compared to XBMC, where it's instant. I find the library mode in ATV Flash to be quite "meh".

So worse handling of subtitles, worse handling of audio, worse handling of playback and a much simpler (and not in a good way) library mode than the free XBMC are the reasons why ATV Flash (black) was a waste of money for me."

It does the job for me… don't use subtitles, don't own any faulty rips, library is well-organised and I just need an app that will let me access these files stored on a NAS drive. So Firecore media player fits the bill perfectly.

Different requirements I suppose.

Yes, it does the job. I bought for it because I read so many positive comments about it, and it turns out the only positive thing about it is that it looks like the native interface. Not really worth 30 bucks in my opinion, but if it is for you - good for you, you made a great buy.

I wouldn't buy a Fiat Punto just because it fits in my garage if I could get a Hummer for free but having to park it outside.

mhhh I'm not sure that's the right analogy here.

I'd compare it more with OS X and Linux… Along the lines of "why would I go for a professional, well designed OS if I can get Linux for free?"

Bottom line is you're paying for a media player that handles every aspect of playback worse than the free option. I just think it's important to tell people about it so that they can make an informed decision.

Do you think it's worth 30 bucks to have a media player that "does the job" integrated in the native interface instead of having a free and extremely capable media center, then go for it. I found it to be a waste of money.
 
I have to say after purchasing atv flash (black) it is a waste of money. All i use is xbmc and for that i should have just installed it manually. Oh well, not a big deal. ATV Flash does have a couple of neat features, just not worth the price you pay imo.
 
I just got a AppleTV last week, jailbroke it and installed XBMC. I couldn't stand the interface, it was confusing, having it connect to my Time Capsule didn't work right and I was spending tons of time wading through the XBMC forums and Wikis trying to find a solution. It took me right back to all those days I used to spend trying to set up Windows networking, routers, etc. It went nowhere.

So, I spent the money on atv Flash, it found my Time Capsule, asked me for a l/p, showed all the movies with metadata, and works perfectly. Within 15 minutes I accomplished what I couldn't in hours on XBMC. Hell I was even able to uninstall XBMC through the atv Flash menus.

If XBMC works for you, great, save the money. I'd probably put it on a HTPC or something I primarily use, but this for the living room. But atv Flash's simplicity and interface integration has a lot going for it.
 
I agree with above i found XBMC a horrible piece of software i deleted it ages ago & have never gone back.

ATV Flash media players works pefectly now i never have any problems plus to add software on to the ATV is so much easier than having to shhh stuff in.

They are continuing to constantly improve all the features to so defo worth the money i think.

XBMC is not a bad software, but it does required some setup, it support themes and skins and you can manually change pretty much anything if you know how, you can get a great looking and fully functional box, but that is not for everyone.

If you have a computer or your Network, you mat want to give Plex Media Center a try, Plex does required a computer running the "server", the server does everything, Metadata mining, catalog, Transcoding, and keep the actuall media file, then you can stream your entire library to any client (including the Apple TV), the Interface is pretty much the same as the Apple TV menus, and it is pretty easy to setup (again the only thing is that required a server running somewhere on the network).
 
Apple TV 2 Jailbreak

I have an Apple TV 2 loaded with Icefilms and recently it stopped working due to the whole SOPA thing that went on. Does anyone know if there is another app that can do the same thing as ICEFILMS? :confused:

Note: I also have XBMC running along with nitotv on my unit.

I believe ICEfilms stop working because of the MEGAUPLOAD site going down...and they released an update to use Rapidshare links.
