Some Switch Questions?

I am considering switching from a PC to a MAC in my (soon to be) redecorated den. I am considering the 20” iMac because of its form and function. I love my iPod and its ease of use and I am sick of the problems I consistently have with my windows machine. I recently added a wireless card to my PC and it crashed my entire system. Pathetic.

Anyway, I am going to justify the expense of the 20” iMac because I would like to also use it as a TV in my den. Can this be done and can someone help me with what hardware and software I would need to hook my cable (for TV) to the iMac. The other main program I use is office. I am undecided if I should buy the Mac version and use it under Rosetta or I should wait for Parallel and use my current windows version. It seems like it would be preferable to go to an all OS X system – as long as I am going to make the change.

The most important thing when using OS X and Rosetta is to make sure your system has enough RAM. At least 1 GB and preferably 2 GB, third party RAM.

Apple charges waaay too much to upgrade RAM, so go to OWC (Macsales.com), Datamem.com or Crucial.

Running your system as a TV media center is fine, but I would be very cautious about leaving your iMac connected if you live in an area prone to lightning.

Buying MS Office for Mac education version covers all your basic Office needs, but you won't have MS Project or Access.

My daughter's school is selling Office for Mac for $79.00, so if you are eligable for education discounts, that's a great way to save on your hardware purchase and your software.

I would recommend getting as much RAM as possible.
