Someone help me please! (installing from Windows XP Pro SP2 Upgrade)

Ok, so here is my problem. I have a copy of Windows XP Pro SP2 Upgrade. I usually use this to install Windows and when it asks for verification I use my full version of Windows 2000.

I've been trying all day to find a way to install my copy of Windows XP Pro SP2 Upgrade. I have created a couple of Windows XP SP2 disks with a copy of Windows 2000 in a folder to avoid the verification procedure. However I have been unsuccessful. I have tried to find a way to make this work but can't.

I know boot camp says that you cannot use the Upgrade version of XP to install, however, there must be a way you can do it legally. I do not want to download the numerous illegal full versions of XP on the web.

I'd appreciate it if someone can help me.

Sorry, but Boot Camp acts like a severe pain in the butt when it comes to trying to use workarounds for stuff that isn't supported. When it says "Windows XP SP-2", it means it. Regular Windows XP doesn't work; Vista doesn't work. Windows XP MCE 2005 only works (if it's SP-2) if you have an external CD-ROM drive to point the Setup program to when it asks for the second CD. I had to go buy a copy of Windows XP SP-2 in order to get Boot Camp to work properly.

You MIGHT try copying the Windows 2000 CD contents to a directory (WIN2K, for example) on your Windows partition, and then run Windows XP Setup. This MIGHT work, but there's no guarantee.

If you have an external CD drive try just putting Win2k in it, then install with the upgrade disc, or does Boot Camp assistant not recognize the upgrade CD and allow you to partition the HD?

The problem is not installation. Just rename your 2k cd so that boot camp will recognize it (I believe it works with the name of the cd inserted when prompted, or maybe even just the i386 folder, i dunno), and off you go to reboot and install 2000.
The problem comes from the SP. My SP1 home edition was recognized by boot camp and succesfully installed. Then, macintosh drivers, and "installation failed". Kinda "rtfm n00b, it says SP2".
I didnt try the SP upgrade, since when i burned the stuff from another pc, the cd wouldnt read, probably missing drivers...

Finally put in a SP2 Pro disc, and the drivers worked fine!

Well I have finally accomplished my task by putting a Windows 98 folder on my Windows XP SP2 Pro upgrade disk. The installer asked for installation media and found the requisite files on the CD. Woohoo!.

You no longer are required to have a full version of XP SP2 in order to install it on a mac.
