Someone please explain "icloud music library" to me

I have a few questions about it:
-if i put all my music in icloud music library, the songs will appear on my iphone. Does it mean that i need an internet connection to listen to them?
-are the songs actually stored in my iphone? Like...I have 3 gigs of music, can I put it in the icloud music library and listen to them on my iphone with an internet connection without having the actual songs stored on my iphone???
-do I need Apple Music subscription for it ?

The songs will all show up on any device that you sign into iCloud Music library with. You will have to manually download them in order to have them available offline. The easiest way to do this is by making a playlist, and downloading the playlist, although downloading large playlists isn't very reliable right now.

You need to either sign up for iTunes Match ($25/year - access to your music only) Apple Music, ($10/month - access to your music and the entire Apple music library all with DRM from any device) or both to get this feature.

Nevermind, I just heard that the songs are cached once played, the whole point for me was not to store any songs on my iphone so this whole thing is useless to me. MODS, please remove this thread. Thank you!

Not all songs are cached once played. Some portion of them are depending on available storage space in order to make songs that have been listened to recently more quickly available as well as to save bandwidth vs. downloading the same song repeatedly. As you listen to different stuff, the cache is flushed and cycled.

I actually think Apple needs to provide a clear cache option in the music app. I sent a request to them.

free. music in your library that is either purchased or imported or downloaded elsewhere is synced from tunes to your ipod/iphone,etc

free. any music you purchased is available on up to 10 devices.

iTunes match
includes iCloud music library
$25 a year
music that is in your library from other sources is matched to iTunes store copies when possible, and stored on apple's servers. you can have up to 25,000 songs. any music purchased from apple can be upgraded to DRM FREE copies.
syncing to a device is not possible. music is either streamed or downloaded from the internet. when iTunes match is canceled, whatever music you matched ( upgraded ) never expires and its yours to keep forever

$10 a month , same thing as iTunes match. songs do not have to be matched. any song that iTunes sells is available for you to download or play from the internet. if you cancel your apple music subscription, the music you upgraded or downloaded is lost. this also gives you some other features like for siri and connect or something

technically. , iCloud music library is the free version of iTunes match. you buy songs and apple keeps your purchases like they always do, and you can play them or download over the internet.
