I bought an open box 2010 mac mini from best buy. So I go home to find the o.g. Owner never logged out. I tried to repair it with provided disk but their snow leopard and he upgraded to lion before returning it to best buy. I get a message saying disk unbootable.

Try booting with the Snow Leopard disks and using Disk Utility to completely erase the partition structure (including the Lion recovery partition) and reinstalling fresh.

To clarify ...

Install your Snow Leopard CD (or Leopard CD), then restart your computer using the "c" to boot from the CD.

Once you've done that, you can use Disk Utilities to completely erase your HDD.
