I know there are pictures up at various places, but I'd like to see some personal ones.

I know there are a couple of you who already picked one up.

Are these already on display at Apple Stores?

They told me the same story...Sorry sir we don't have them..they told me this on the phone. Then I called and asked if they had ilife 08 and they said yes. WELL then I was wondering why apple would ship ilife 08 with out the new imacs weird. I was talking to the apple guys and one of the workers slipped. Whoops...he said they were in the back but they couldn't sell them yet. Well I asked if they could just save me a trip there tomorrow...and now I am workin on one.

The display looks beautiful! I just can't get over the black border... why, Apple? Why??? :(

I totally agree... why not just keep the whole thing aluminum. Not to mention the glossy screen... and the lack of the magnet on the side for the apple remote :(

The black border is to manipulate the size. It makes the screen look bigger while making the enclosure smaller. Remember when everyone complained about the "chin" on the all white imac? Well, look at the new chin. It's visually thinner.

I disagree. Someone here posted pictures of the new iMac next to the "old" white iMac, and the screen on the white iMac looked bigger. I'm not sure what you mean by the chin on the new iMac being thinner... it appears to be the same size, except that the top fifth of it is black (because of the border around the screen). Without that black border.. it would look exactly the same.

I think a main purpose of the black border is to hide the iSight.

Before I bought the iMac, I didn't think I would like the keyboard as much as the old one, but the spacing between keys actually feels the same space apart. It just feels much better than the old one in my opinion.

Black borders increase perceived visual contrast on the screen and 'improve' picture quality for the viewer.

For real. It's an eye thing.

And if you watch any movies on you iMac you will appreciate the black border. It will improve the picture and reduce eye strain.
