I have a week 43 AT&T iphone that I want to use in Ireland with an O2 SIM.

I have been trying to hack it for nearly two weeks. I'm a network administrator and a qualified computer programmer so I am pretty tech savvy but I don't know a lot about the iPhone. I don't know what basbeband or bootloader mean. (Do I really need to?)

I have tried to hack this phone with every method under the sun without success. Every tutorial I try sends me round in circles because I either get an error, or I can't download something or something that's supposed to be on my phone that I need to go to the next step isn't there etc etc etc.

Can someone please just tell me me where to start or point me to instructions that won't lead me to yet another dead end. I will genuinely transfer €50 to anyone who helps me get my iphone working.

First, are you running Windows or Mac?

if your on windows, just use ziphone. its so easy and unlocks your phone in like 3 minutes

sigh! No. Ziphone is the not my starting point and I've been round this merry-go-round many times.

After I run ziphone I need to update the BSD subsystem which refuses to download. Then I can't update my community sources because community sources isn't listed. I've re-installing the installer. Still can't down load the BSD. So I get stuck there.

So, obviously I need to start over but where?

I'm using windows btw

You probably need to completely restore your iPhone and run ZiPhone from there. ZiPhone works with OOTB and fully restored phones best. Ones that have been customised are more likely to run into little glithes like yours.

There's a thread on this topic if you want more details. But the gist of it is that you restore the phone with iTunes choosing the create new phone option and upgrade to 1.1.3. Then run ZiPhone.

I've done this. I restored my phone using the iTunes. Then ran ziphone 2.4. My phone will not download the BSD subsytem. Same result when I do a shift+restore. CAn't install communtiy sources because they they're not listed in installer.

I went all the way back to 1.1.1 and phone will not download Appsnapp, but this is not a wi-fi problem.

Hold down "Home" and "Sleep" buttons, when the Apple logo shows, release the "Sleep" button but keep the home button held down. Open iTunes and wait for it to tell you it's in DFU mode. Restore to 1.1.3 and try Ziphone again.
