If lets say worse comes to worse and apple and cingular decide to hose us all and put like 20 phones per store, with limited online accessibility. People end up robbing each other or shooting each other for them come the 29th and days after. Could apple face a lawsuit for potentially instigating this type of rabid consumerism? I mean they are all privy to what happened with the ps3s and such. If they intentionally do that, is that not irresponsible and dangerous? To me, this is the deal breaker. I think the phone is perfect and I am really looking forward to buying myself one but if I have to worry about getting shanked on the way home after picking one up i simply won't do it. I think its really ****** they have waited so long to tell people what is going on with the plan structure and specific cost as i think its not really funny or cute anymore. Any thoughts?

- No one will get robbed or shot because of limited iPhone availability. People might get mugged because they're carrying a pricey gadget on them, but what are you suggesting - a ban on expensive personal items? There goes that Coach bag...

- No, Apple could not face a lawsuit over it even if this happened (which it won't). Many companies sell much pricier, more desirable, easier to fence products in more limited quantities all the time. Do you think Tiffany should (or could) be sued if someone is robbed of their diamond necklace?

- Watch fewer action movies. No one's going to "shank" you as you walk home from your downtown mall. Not unless your mall is in a burning-cars-in-the-streets type of area, in which case it doesn't really matter if you have an iPhone or not, and how would anyone know anyway?

- AT&T is going through a lot of change right now, and despite the buddy-buddy relationship Apple and AT&T have been advertising, rest assured that there are serious battles going on every day right now over the pricing, plans, service, etc. In any case, how exactly would it help your "safety" if the plans were advertised now?

Apple announces the phone in January and people go, booo, you should've announced it when it was ready to ship! And now it's, booo, you're not announcing it early enough!

Just look at it as another reason to avoid the Apple stores. Though the sight of rabid Mac fanatics rioting in malls all across the US would make for interesting TV.
