Howdy folks,

In Windows you can create a container called a Briefcase that allows you to put files and move them to different computers or drive.

That container allows you to sync the files with their point of origin. I click on Update and it allows me to make sure the two copies of a file (in the container, and in the original location) are identical but overwriting the older document.

Is there something similar built into OSX? or any freeware or shareware application that can do the same?

Thanks!

Wow! I have never heard of anyone ever using the Briefcase feature in Windows.

It sounds like a very clumsy method of folder synchronization. Why not go to Version Tracker and look for "folder synchronization"? You'll undoubtedly find several packages which work better. Another thought is, a little Applescript can do this type of thing quite conveniently.

I've been using FoldersSynchomizer since MacOS 9.x.x and continue today with the OS X native versions.

I need this as I have a 12PB that acts as a portable version of my Quicksiver workstation at home.

It's quite robust and is far more effective than the Briefcase. I synch from several sources, the Home on both Macs my iDisk, and my PC's all with one FolderSynchronizer client.

The only thing I have to rememebr to do is mount all of the client drives prior to the Synch command otherwise it burps (can't find files).

Actually it is somewhat handy because you can move that Briefcase to any system and it remembers the original location, especially if the files sat on a server or LAN drive. With a script, I might have to know where the original file location was.

Does it support drag and drop? or do I have to specifically tell it, here is the source and he is the target files?

Thanks for the info, I will check it out! :)
