First of all, I waiting on friday morning and love my iPhone 3G. Today I noticed that if I shake the phone I can hear something moving inside it. I know that this is such a small thing but it bothers me so I thought i'd go ahead and ask.
The noise doesn't happen when i slowly move the phone or rock it back and forth, but only when I give it a decent shake. And only when I move the phone vertically, not side to side.
It sounds like something very small and light, definitely not the battery. I'm pretty much a noob, the only thing i can think of is maybe the accelerometer, but I didn't think that it would have enough play in it to make a noise, and my first gen I phone definitely didn't do it.
Should I bother going to my local apple store or is this something I shouldn't worry about?

You should probably get that looked into, it's definitely not normal. Something probably got stuck in your phone during the manufacturing process. I wouldn't want to know what it is if I were you, though :p. Just take it back for a quick exchange.

I think I will take it to the store. Doing a backup now. Does backing up the phone store everything on the phone? Will I be able to exchange for a new phone, restore it from the backup and never be able to tell that I made the exchange?
The only annoying thing is that its a waste of a screen protector, it says that there reusable but the second you take it off dust sticks to it like a vacuum and never comes off.

Bugger - that sucks. Certainly isn't normal. Mine doesn't rattle. Do you have kids? A new rattle for them? Just joking.
Yeah the backup should backup EVERYTHING *fingers crossed*.

Hopefully they will be able to replace it on the spot if they have stock.
