something really weird with my spare iPhone 12 Pro's battery... once it reaches 1%, it can continue to play YouTube video for over an hour

this started happening about 2 weeks ago. at first, I noticed that the battery level dropped much quicker than usual.... until I finally realized that it took such a long time to reach from 5% down to 1%... and even longer from 1% to 0%(and shutting itself off)

Is this a problem with the battery or the software that's monitoring the battery? If so, what should I do to correct this "problem"? Battery health meter shows that it's still at 98% after a year of use, so I don't think Apple will replace the battery?

THnkas!

The fact of the matter is battery tech is a chemical reaction process and the software understands binary data. So any battery meter is always an estimate and companies switch around the algorithm to show what they want to show and for how long from time to time, until the chemical reaction reaches a certain threshold. This is why you see 2 different battery life measuring software will always vary a little if they’re using different algorithms.

Unless you’re seeing defective behaviour, don’t worry about it. You can restart the device just for the sake of it.

I had the same behavior on 2 previous iPhone but they were way below 80% battery health.
On the iPhone 6S Plus I borrowed 3 weeks before buying my 13 Mini, and that had not been used since more than a year, it took some days before the % battery displayed was accurate. At the beginning, the last 1% lasted for more than 1 hour, often 2…

The battery level gauge is out of calibration. It doesn’t know where zero is. Run it down to cut off and charge it back to 100% a few more times and it will figure it out.
