I just have to get this out, it's been bugging me a lot. Why is it that whenever someone talks about an Android phone like the Galaxy SIII you don't see the iPhone guys rushing in to bash it. But whenever you see an article about the iPhone 5, all of the Android guys get their panties in a bunch and rush in filled with butt-hurt. This is especially relevant on Gizmodo's website. I almost don't want to read anything but MacRumors. Is this annoying anyone else?

As an iPhone user, I recognize that there are competitors out there with "faster, bigger or more expensive" phones. However, iPhone fits my needs, which is why I stand behind it.

And in the Engadget comments as well. I don't get it.

The Engadget comments are horrific. They're all pro-Android going there to just bash on iPhones. Plus they're the type of idiots that act like they don't know what the article author is talking about unless they're 100% specific on things. There was an article about what the new Nano might look like and I guess the author said "the old generation" and they replied with "be more specific, are you talking about the 4th gen?" as if they thought he was speaking in another language.

I use Windows Phone and I bash on Android. I just think it's a rubbish OS, since you asked :p

In fairness, i haven't tried the newest OS, although I hear it works well.

because they know they have an inferior product but can't admit it

It is amazing that people really believe stuff like this. The S3 is superior to the iPhone in various ways just as the iPhone is superior to the S3 in various different ways. To call the current top selling phone (S3) inferior and stating that the users of it know it is inferior but can't admit it is just plain childish. Some people just don't need or can't warrant the money for an iPhone. Doesn't mean the product it inferior, just different for different needs.

Sigh, I agree and am abit fed up with this all myself. That said, not sure the S3 is that much cheaper than the iphone 5 really.

Fandroids are present here in abundance. There's no place to hide. The evil taint is spreading even now throughout these hallowed grounds... Think about zombie apocalypse.

Not even a couple days back, I replied to some guy posting that this forum was nothing more than a mindless Apple cult fest.

You talk about Apple too much, and suddenly it's an iTard fanwank. Mention Android one time too many, and people come out of the woodwork screaming that the fandroids are ruining Macrumors.

All I can figure is that some people are never happy.

Well, at least on my part, I'm unaware when a new Android phone is released. I don't follow their products due to lack of interest, so there's no reason why I would even be reading an article about something new.

Excuse me, what ? You haven't read many threads in the Alternatives forum it seems, or in the News Discussion section. Heck, in threads that aren't even about Android or Samsung phones, you'll get someone exclaiming "Take that Fandroids!".

Sorry, you're choosing not to see it. It's there. Fanboys on both sides are insecure, that is why they feel the need to personally define themselves by the OS running on a piece of plastic/metal/whatever they own. People that aren't insecure aren't fanboys. They realise it's all just gadgets and anyone can own whichever they want, there's no exclusive clubs here.

This.

Pre iOS it was always 'cool' for PC people to bash Apple users... just something that happens. At the end of the day.. it's a PHONE that you will have for what? 1, 2 or 3 years?

It's "cool" to hate on the iPhone

And when you buy a phone based primarily for geek points (most flagship Android devices), you feel the need to justify your decision by trashing all of the other options you passed on. You see plenty of inter-family trash talking as well, between S3 owners and, say, Galaxy Nexus owners.

"My S3 is absolutely top of the line! My specs are better than yours! LOLzers!"

"Oh yeah? Well my GNex has the "Pure Android Experience™! I get updates and you don't! My nerd-***** is bigger than yours!"

I don't think you see it AS much from the Apple guys (not saying it doesn't happen often) because more of the iPhone consumers just don't care about being the #1 tech nerd on the planet.

You see it just as much. No seriously, read this forum for 1 day. Page 1 of most threads is just that, iPhone owners "rubbing it in the face" of "fandroids". Why ? I don't know. I can own either phone, they cost the same, I just have to walk in a store and buy it.

If Android does something better, I can buy it the next day. Same if Apple does something better, I can have a brand new iPad/iPhone the very next day.

Insecure people on both sides. No side is better. If you think a side is worse than the other, you're probably applying selective bias and choosing not to see it.

Heck, just go to the Alternatives to iOS sub-forum and check out the threads. Quite a few "Apple-sided" culprits there. I can give you a list of names to watch for in PM if you need help "digging them out", tough they should stand out pretty easily...

You do realise this is an Apple forum?

I personally sick of the astroturfers, shills, or whatever they are, ruining this site.

More like it's "cool" to think the phone you bought is the bestest evar, and anyone who thinks otherwise is stupid dumb. Cuz if they were smart, they'd get the phone you got. Cuz you're smart. And they're not. Cuz they got that other phone. Which means they're dumb.

This is one of the more brilliant comments I've seen recently. It illustrates the "false logic" lots of people follow: "I'm smart, I like X (whatever X is) -- therefore, everyone who likes X is also smart, and, logically, everyone who doesn't like X is either stupid or evil". As if buying an Audi vs. a BMW, or liking the Yankees vs. the Mets, or voting red or blue is an IQ test to be either passed or failed. It couldn't possibly be that different people have different priorities, experiences, and are, well, different.

Have these people never met someone who liked the same book/movie/restaurant they do, but, in their opinion, was either a complete jerk, or dumb as a box of rocks? I sure have. Hopefully that doesn't, logically, mean that I fall into one of those categories.

So that makes it ok for people to troll the "Alternatives to iOS devices" sub-forum ? I don't quite understand the logic.

I personally sick of the astroturfers, shills, or whatever they are, ruining this site.

But you're ok with them ruining the "Alternatives to iOS devices" sub-forum ? Personally, I think extremists on both sides ruin this forum. This is an Apple forum, we don't have to resort to FUD against Apple's competition and outright lies to hide the truth behind Apple's bad moves.

We can discuss things objectively when it comes to Apple, as Apple users. The good and the bad.
