Can't you take it to a store to the genius bar and have them deal with it? Do you know what is under it?

I'm in Canada, so I can't.

If I do go, do they ask for my number and stuff to get it replaced/fixed?

It's just under the top glass, but on top of the actual screen. It's not a dead pixel either.

Not sure-- I think (and I may be wrong) if they replace it, they may ask for a number to activate it....but maybe someone who has gotten their phone replaced could clarify?

It seems to be the dreaded air bubble...

If it looks like a bubble trapped between the glass and the LCD, you have the much-feared iphone flaw (the worst flaw of all?). As far as I know, the only thing you can do is to try to get the phone replaced. I couldn't find anyone that can fix these thing.

Cheers

they'll run your serial number to see if the phone was activated with AT&T

was it at one point do you know? they don't track inactivations(?), just the inital activation.
